“Average, completely out of the way, breakfast is bad.”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

This Pullman congregates with other hotels in this area away from the city (at least 20 mins by car), location wise, there is no reason why you would want to stay here unless you are here on business for the nearby expo. Couple of restaurants to cater to the business travellers here for the expo, other than that, this is a "no man island". Tram construction was in progress when we were here, hopefully when the construction completes, connectivity to the city centre will be a lot easier than the local bus + tram = 40 minutes combination now. Room was very average, basic with some necessities, there were flies in the room, surprising how housekeeping can ignore them completely. Breakfast was horrible, the worst we have had in our trip, but I guess it was because we were part of a tour group, they got us a separate breakfast room from the rest.

We normally stay in Bordeaux when driving through France but we had no idea that there was a casino conference going on and ALL of the local hotels were full. We pulled into an Ibis and they were full and they recommended the Pullman. We could pay at the Ibis a discounted rate and stay nearby at the Pullman which was fine with me for obvious reasons!
The hotel was quite full and we stayed in a suite for a very reasonable price. The bathroom was kitted out with Roger Gallet goodies and there was a Nespresso machine on the bedside table. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very modern.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floor are quieter.

I notice that this review link specifies that the Pullman Bordeaux Aquitania is 'formerly Sofitel', but that's not how it's marketed. I'm glad Sofitel are no longer associated with its management or I might well had to reconsider making Sofitel my preferred business/travel hotel...

The only redeeming feature of the Bordeaux Pullman was that it's out of the city near the motorway, so leaving was easy! Finding it night wasn't though...with poor information offered by the hotel in consideration of the roadworks.

Employees seemed like startled rabbits, and service was below average everywhere. Even at check-in, where I arrived with my colleague, they would have checked me in and sent me to my room before starting on my colleague's check-in. This despite paying for the whole bill in advance, having two rooms and names on the reservation, and having walked into the building and stood at reception at the same time.

The rooms were as expected of a good hotel, although not as well appointed as one would hope, and badly laid out. I had a superior room, but the coffee machine was not working in and when I followed the cables behind the (poorly stocked) fridge to see if there was any obvious problem I found that there were only two sockets -- with three appliances it meant I had to lift out the fridge (luckily not heavy - perhaps the reason they don't put much in it!) and unplug the kettle to plug in the coffee machine... Easily solved by a caring hotel rather than a tired guest, so one must assume the hotel to be in managerial disarray.

The bed was comfortable enough, but the pillows too thick for the softness of the mattress, and no choice of pillows... I found a solution...again home made... In the morning there was a power cut, then a fire alarm, but no evacuation of the building and nothing like an apology or explanation from the staff.

If you have a choice then I wouldn't stay here. I won't be doing so again.

We chose this hotel as a halfway stop during our journey from the UK to Spain and the fact that it was only 5 minutes from the motorway. Although we arrived at 23:30 hours the welcome and check in was fast and courteous. The rooms can only be described as corporate, good size all conveniences including free WiFi and very clean.
24 hour room service was on offer but we were so tired after a long days drive we passed on that. Breakfast was average not awful not superb. Checkout took far too long because the person kept answering the phone whilst dealing with me. This is a very irritating habit where the phone is more important than the person in front of you.
The major plus point for us was that although this is a 4 star hotel they allow pets to stay with you in the rooms which for us was fantastic.
If you're not a business traveler or just over nighting the location would probably be awful as the hotel appears to be in an industrial estate. That said it was the perfect overnight stopover for us and when we return to the UK we will definately use the Pullman again

We drove to this hotel, from the moment our car arrived we had 5 star service, our car was promptly unloaded and driven away and parked for us. On check in, the staff were falling over them selves to help us, special mention to the concierge Robert who was delightful with the children.
The restaurant did not have a extensive menu, but the food was extremely good and again the children were well taken care of.
Pullman quality stood our in the rooms, which were superb spacious and luxurious, with every facility.
In comparison with other Pullman hotels it is not the best one I have stayed in, but it is up there among the top ten in my overall all time greats.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the lake are superb

As a family we had to stay at this hotel due to the conference my husband was attending at the conference centre next door. I had read the reviews and was ready for the expensive taxi ride from the airport, (40 euros), the horrible concrete jungle surroundings and could even bear the roadworks going on outside all day. What I wasn't expecting was the lack of hospitality, especially from the restaurant manager.
In brief, I brought the children down to breakfast 5 minutes after breakfast serving had finished. Despite the restaurant still being full of diners and the buffet still laid out I was told we couldn't eat. I explained we would be quick, the children would only need a croissant. No, we had to have it in our room. I pointed out all the diners eating and the food out, but again was told absolutely not, they had to lay the tables for lunch. After pleading that we just would only want something small for the children we were informed we could eat in the bar! We sat on low sofas and rested our food on high bar tables and ate our food in full view of the restaurant, like school children sent out of the classroom. At the end of our breakfast as we walked away, the restaurant was still busy, the food still out and I felt so angry that I complained to reception. They called the restaurant manager over who couldn't have been ruder. As I explained why I felt so annoyed at our treatment and the lack of kindness or flexibility shown to us, and the fact that others were still eating even an hour after the supposed closing time, she spoke over me in French to her colleague and then, smirking, walked away.
The next evening, after a Gala night, many of the attendees came back to the hotel for a night cap and the bar was full of people. Despite there being clearly many people who would be happy to pay the high prices for a second drink, the grill was pulled down smartly at 11.50 and the bar was announced 'closed'.
The following two mornings the Restaurant manager ignored us.Not once did any of the staff acknowledge me or my husband if we passed in the corridor. It's as if having actual guests staying is an irritant to this hotel. They can be perfectly pleasant at check in or check out, but should you require something or have an issue they really don't care. Clearly they would rather the hotel be empty so they can run it to their strict rules. I wonder if they understand that guests are meant to be made to feel welcome. We certainly weren't, so we left a day early.

This hotel is in a location remote from the town of Bordeaux and in a depressing industrial estate type setting. The taxi from the airport cost a whopping €48. To get to Bordeaux town you had to get a bus and then the tram, when this worked it took about 30 minutes but one night we got off the tram at 10pm and had to wait at a breezy deserted bus stop with no facilities for 90 minutes for a bus. There were no taxis about and when I rang the hotel and asked them to call me a taxi they refused ! It would have been impossible to have walked as the route was through unlit roads with no footpaths and roadworks. If you were a lone traveller and especially if you were a lone woman the experience would have been very frightening. The hotel had given us an information sheet stating that the transport links were every 10 mintues or so, no warning that this is not true at night. I was not impressed by the standard of the hotel either- very ordinary considering the prices, e.g. €25 for breakfast in a town where a splendid breakfast can be had in a cafe for less than €8.
