The L'Echoppe des Bouilles Bed and Breakfast is an outstanding place and is well worth the stay. In our three months of travelling through Europe, this was the most comfortable we have had. We stayed in the top floor room, which was remarkable. Firstly, the rooms were brand new (which helps) and was simply yet tastefully decorated. The rooms are light and airy, with skylights / ceiling windows that open. The beds were SO comfortable that I had the BEST sleeps and would look forward to going to bed of an evening. The B&B also had Wi-Fi that was available and achieved speeds of around 12Mbps. While they advised us that they wouldn't necessarily be cleaned every day, we found that they were attended to almost every day.

The breakfast was simple but excellent quality. We received home-made breads and toast with sweets, fruit, coffee and juice. The hosts were not intrusive during the breakfast although they were happy to engage in conversation if invited.

If you have a car, there is no off-street parking HOWEVER there is plenty of on street parking that is unmetered and untimed which is very safe. If you don't have a car, it is an easy fifteen minute walk to the centre of Bordeaux with public transport nearby if you prefer.

If you do stay here, there is a traditional and cheap French restaurant that has excellent food two blocks from the B&B that is worth every cent. We stumbled across it and found it full of locals, which is always a good sign.

If you're in Bordeaux, I wouldn't go past L'Echoppe des Bouilles as it is certainly worth the stay. Stop now and just book.....(I don't say that lightly either!!)

Room Tip: Try the french restaurant down the road

We spent 3 nights at this b&b with another couple & we were extremely glad that we did. We were over the big chain hotels & needed a place to just unwind. This was perfect. The host was welcoming & most accommodating & they did not live in the building itself. We were fortunate to have the place to ourselves, the upstairs & ground floor rooms which were equally light, airy, spacious & functional, & use of the dining & kitchen (with a communal full-size fridge). The location is a good 15-20 minute walk to town, it's flat so it makes it easy & we're avid walkers. Parking was on the street but we had no problem the whole te we were there. We slept well every night & enjoyed unwinding here after long days & 2.5 weeks into our road trip.We didn't realise the room was tidied daily so were quite surprised to see the laptop taken out of the power plug & a few things moved around. We were greeted with a simple breakfast by the host, home-made conserves, bread, yoghurt, a different cake everyday & tea & coffee. We had Francoise (the hosts mother) attending us for a couple of days & really enjoyed her company & laid back approach to it all. Hopefully we'll make it to Francoise's place in Beynac, Residence Versailles.

My boyfriend and I recently enjoyed a wonderful stay in Bordeaux, spending two nights in L'Echoppe des Bouilles. The room is upstairs in a private house in a quiet neighborhood, only a few blocks from the tram station to get downtown or to the train station (though the downtown is only a 15 minute walk). We were cautioned of the low ceilings and weren't worried, but did bump our heads a few times! Also, the "shower" was sitting-only -- sufficient, but a little surprising! That said, the house was immaculately clean, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've found. The hostess and host were incredibly kind and warm. They were patient with our butchered French and very accommodating and helpful given our time constraints. Breakfast was small -- croissants, breads with jam, juice, and coffee/chocolate/tea, but fresh and served right on time each day. We had our own keys to the house and had no issues getting around. We were there for Bastille Day weekend, so there were fewer trams than normal, and it took approximately an hour to reach the train station on Sunday morning, but otherwise found the system very convenient. We spent one entire day in St. Emilion for wine tours (reachable on bus 302 from downtown), but wish we could have spent more time in the actual city of Bordeaux! Hoping to have a return trip to see more of this region -- what a gem of a city, and a perfect stay in this B&B!!
