We saw the most wonderful opera within the Grand Theatre! In all honesty, we purchased the tickets so that we could see the gorgeous interior of the Grand Theatre; but were then delightfully entertained by the opera, Orphée aux Enfers.

The architecture of the building is simply amazing! If I'm not mistaken, Paris designed their opera house after the one in Bordeaux!

Really worth a look, the theatre in Bordeaux keeps all its original features due to the fact that it never caught fire! A rarity apparently. And I know this because a nice fireman told me so :-)

Sadly, we weren't staying long enough in Bordeaux to appreciate theatre or opera at this venue. However, we were able to enjoy its architectural qualities (Corinthian colums with 12 muses atop!) at dusk which made for a magnificent setting when having a late espresso at one of the cafes alongside the theatre. The Theatre itself is set in a beautiful square.

First time I went to the ballet. Beautiful building, great performance, strange appearance of little red riding hood and puss in boots in the middle of Sleeping Beauty though... Bar was expensive but of course it is, it's in a Theatre.
