Beautiful fountain on the middle, nothing much except the size: it's the biggest square in Europe!
Best to see on fairground time.

A beautiful open esplanade with views of the river. At one end is a stupendous fountain featuring seahorses with webbed hooves and fishy tails. Don't miss it.

This broad plaza was another public works project that went wrong - big plans for made for this multi-acre area that at one time was housing for many working-class Bordelais. What's left is a great broad space where any number of events take place (a regional fair was going on when we got there, complete with some of the wildest carnival rides ever seen!), and the central feature of the Quinconces is its tower and fountain. The sculpture looks like your regular over-the-top late-empire affair until you check out the details ... like the horses' hooves that are claws and the three guys getting eternally vomited on by a frog.

The Quinconces is an angle-point between several clusters of tourist delights in Bordeaux, and there's no doubt that you're going to cross it at least three or four times if you're enjoying a day in old-town Bordeaux. Take a few minutes on one of those crossings to stop and savor it.

More stunning and spectacular than the Trevi in Rome. Definitely a landmark to see in Bordeaux. The combination of the brass statues and lava type rocks leaves you amazed.

When I was a student in Bordeaux, this square was nothing but a dreary car park. Now it has a grandeur about it that makes the long walk across a breeze.
