“Clean, comfortable and nice location.”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

The Normandie is in a great location in the middle of Bordeaux and beside the Bordeaux wine school and tourist office. It's a short walk to most all sites to see in Bordeaux and convenient to great bars, cafes and restaurants. Staying at the Normandie you should expect nothing more than a 3 star experience, but a good 3 star experience. Like many reviewers before, don't expect exceptional service on a real frills. The rooms are clean, comfortable beds and the bathrooms are a decent size. We had a superior room that was quite nice and a decent size with a desk and couple of chairs in the corner. Wireless signal was ok in the room...we were on the 2nd floor and while our computer worked the ipads were unable to get a strong enough connection to be useful.

Be careful not to just grab a coffee and something quick for breakfast or they will hit you for the full 16 Euros per person....Grab your coffee and crossaint just outside the hotel at the many cafes a short walk away. Also, if driving in the hotel has no parking, but their is underground parking just in the square for about 20-25 Euros per day.

Overall...a good place to stay in Bordeaux if just looking for a place to lay your head at night. Don't expect any help booking restaurants, maps of Bordeaux, etc. Book this for a nice, clean, 3 star option in a great location. Just might be worth springing a few extra Euros for a better hotel to enhance a wonderful experience to be had in Bordeaux.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the park.

The Normandie is what I would call a businessman's hotel---not a lot of frills, but functional and convenient. Within walking distance of lots of restaurants and cafes. The Bordeaux Tourist office is just across the street, as is a small kiosk where you can get newspapers, pastries and coffee in the morning and sandwiches throughout the day. The rooms are a good size. The hotel staff was helpful, but not all front desk employees had a working command of English. The Wi-Fi connection was poor---especially on the 6th floor. We were constantly losing connectivity. Overall a good experience.

Room Tip: Request a lower floor if you want better Wi-Fi connection.

Great little hotel, clean, comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering its location. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the breakfast was perfect. The hotel is just across the road from the Bordeaux Wine School (where you can learn all about Bordeaux wine on a walk-in session for 25 Euros) and also the popular Entrecote restaurant.

As all the other reviews have said this a great place to stay in Bordeaux as the hotel fantastically situated right in the heart of Bordeaux. Everywhere in the Hotel it is clean and bright, the staff could not be more helpful and they serve a great breakfast.

We also booked this hotel as part of a package through the Tourist Office and it represents great values as you receive a free bottle of wine, 2 hour guided tour, tram tickets for 5 journeys, wine tasting in a local bar, free access to some museums and a 1/2 day trip to a vineyard

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking out onto the street as they are brighter and you do not hear traffice noise a...

Service was excellent, the room was comfortable and had A/C. Location was fantastic. Breakfast was good, and had hot scrambled eggs with sausage and ham. Good value for money.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Normandie for a work trip and marvel most at 3 things: 1) the helpful and kind staff, 2) the central location and 3) the cleanliness and efficiency of the hotel operations. It is not luxurious but it is clean, safe and good enough for a no-frills stay in Bordeaux. Many of the rooms and floors have been recently renovated. The rooms are small but one is rarely in his room in a city like Bordeaux (except to sleep of course).

This hotel was included in the tour package offered by Tourism office of Bordeaux.

For 250 euros or so, you get 2 night stay, a welcome bottle of wine to take home, a glass of wine at a bar nearby, and tour of the wine region( I went to Medoc), and the city tour. The hotel is centrally located, and you can walk to the tram line, the river, newer part of town, etc.

The hotel does not have great amenities, but it was clean and functional. It did not matter to me much, as I was busy tasting, eating, and shopping in the town, and I went to the hotel after drinking at bars. All I needed to do was to sleep, and it was comfortable bed enough to sleep a bit longer in the morning with hangover headache.

I'm going there again in a month!
