I have stayed in a lot of hotels through work and they are usually standard/sub-standard unfortunately. This beautiful Hotel Partculier was an exception having been lovingly restored with a lot of thought, mixing old and modern with great finesse. A young man, his sister and mother run the place and are very warm and friendly showing genuine interest! All the rooms are different, sometimes odd shapes and sizes and plenty of original ideas for the decor. Take a look at the photos - they are very true to life. Breakfast is served at one great, square table. It is quite expensive but copious and served by a charming English girl. Highly recommended, dead centre of town, right on the tram line, next to cathedral. I'll have to come back when I am NOT working!

Room Tip: I had a studio and a small single room - both lovely.

This hotel is in a very good spot in Bordeaux, with the tram passing by the front door and the cathedral and shopping streets just a stone's throw away. Everything works reasonably well, the staff were very helpful and polite, breakfast was fine. My only small gripe was the slight inattention to detail and not particularly clean room. My ground floor room was quite nice, looking onto the courtyard and very quiet so no problem sleeping. However, the floor really looked like it had not been vacuumed or swept after the previous guests had left, and there were bits, dust and fluff around the place. Similarly the bathroom could have done with a better clean and without the dirty rag that was left by the cleaner (on the handbasin). Also some slightly dodgy decorating decisions such as small tiles on the handbasin which presumably snagged guests' clothes, so someone with minimal handyman skills has run a line of wobbly line of silicone along the edge. The place could be perfect with a bit more attention to detail. In any case, the positives far outweighed the negatives.

wow.. I was so happy with this hotel , we arrived in from England late and the cab driver made us walk as the street is not really for cars only trams but we were greeted and happily shown to our apartment with kitchen, lounge sitting room and large double bed room,it is so French with this beautifully restored Cardinal residence, great bed plenty of room ,couch open fire place and good size bathroom (although the shower head was broken and couldn't be fixed during our stay)this family run hotel with brother and sisters was everything we wanted for our first experience in France.the breakfast was beautifully put together, jams, breads, eggs and ham good coffee.iit was close to the cathedral shops ,restaurants and tram...in fact our room was facing the street and if i had one complaint it was the noise from the trams although they stopped at 11pm after 3 nights I had enough. but just a fantastic find, would love to come back again.

Room Tip: pick one not facing the front street as the trams will drive you nuts..unless you love trams and the...

We had suite La Comedie and it was a 2 room apartment with a large living space, a wall unit that comprised of the kitchen and sink area and a mid sized well ventilated with large windows comfortable bedroom. Bathroom was a bit narrow and small but shower was very good. Flat screen TV with decent selection of channels
Fantastic location right in center of old Bordeaux near the Jean Moulin museum and the Cathedral. Tramway stops right outside of door. Staff super helpful. Young lady who runs the place is very customer centric and overall just nice. It’s a charming exception to the standard hotel as it is essentially converted apartments with a nice central courtyard. No street noise to speak of. Wifi kept kicking us off line but generally was acceptable. Breakfast was good. Cooked requests were not an additional charge.
English was spoken. Not aware of other languages spoken. Taxi from Gare St. Jean was 20 Euros.

L’Hotel Particulier is located in the Centre of Bordeaux in Rue Vital Carles. The hotel is not overly expensive (my room cost 98 euros a night) but quite classy. In fact, it was originally a cardinal’s palace. Rooms are quite large, have a little kitchenette concealed in a cupboard. Oddly no phone or A/C so I'm not sure how comfortable the rooms would be in summer, but right now it's autumn and was fine for me. A fabulous location literally a stone’s throw from St Andre’s Cathedral. Staff very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

An old former Cardinal's house run by a young brother and sister team. Really nice room. Very clean. NIce courtyard in the center to have a glass of wine (yours) and relax.

Parking is about a block away and not free. About $25 per night, but pretty convenient to the hotel.

Their breakfast is NOT a good deal. We usually had breakfast at a boulangarie down the street.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel. One complaint: The friends we were travelling with had a broken air conditioner. The owners didn't ever correct it, and in fact on one of the days I think they went to the beach for the day. Pretty unprofessional. Our room was great and our a/c worked fine as did everything else. Just had to mention that...

Room Tip: I doubt if there's a better deal in that location. Maybe make sure the a/c is GUARANTEED if you...

A beautifully presented and charmingly restored hotel in a fantastic location for exploring central Bordeaux. Very helpful reception staff; spotlessly clean and wonderful spacious rooms. We found some lovely restaurants just a short stroll from the hotel. There is also a tram stop literally at the end of the street (behind the cathedral) which proved handy.
