Mercure Bordeaux Centre Hotel
Ranked #50 of 177 Hotels in Bordeaux
Reviewed May 28, 2013

The Mercure is located next to a large shopping center and near the pedestrian walk area of bordeaux. The views are not great, but the rooms very functional (with funny theme of Hollywood movies running throughout the hotel -- i was on the wild west floors). I appreciated the very helpful staff during my week+ stay. The breakfast staff included the usual croissants etc but surprising hot menu with eggs, pancakes, sausage and such. overall, would stay again. This was a study abroad group with breakfast included in the price.

Room Tip: at the breakfast, ask staff for an expresso which they will make and bring to you -- regular coffee...

We stayed there last september. The room was clean and the staff ok. Very close to the Tramway and the historic destrict. It's a functional room with good beds, but more like a motel than a hotel. I would stay there again if I just search for a place to sleep. If you want to feel the City's history spend more and stay in a more charming Hotel.

The hotel is very well located, close (within walking distance) to the city centre and major city's centre attractions.

The rooms were very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and clean but needs be refurnished a little bit.

The view was nothing special...but when you are in Bordeaux you don't need a view... just good shoes to walk around the city...

The breakfast was pretty good and rich.

The staff was in general polite and willing to serve.

The only bad thing was that the heating in my room did not work, and I had to ask them to check it three times... The result was that the first night I caught a cold. And finally the heating was not fixed (or could not be fixed) and the hotel was fully booked to provide me with another room. At least they gave me an electrical heating device which was ok I guess...

The room had wifi access but unfortunately you had to pay extra for VoIP (Skype etc).

Room Tip: Check heating

The hotel is situated a short walk away from the old town, it's attractions and many restaurants. The room was fine and we did not have any problems with noise as some of the other reviewers have, we were on the fifth floor and away from the lifts. Breakfast was fine with a fair choice but we did not eat any other meals here as it is close to a range of restaurants. All in all a very good choice for a short stay in Bordeaux.

They turned off electricity so I had to call the reception to fix the problem. Then, the hair dryer was not working and they just said they couldn't do anything about it. The internet is free, but, You have to keep signing in or your connection closes. Breakfast was Ok. Only a few local channels on TV.

I stayed for 1 night on business.

Location - The location itself is fairly horrible, concrete jungle just outside the city centre. However, it's only a 5 minute walk from the nice centre, so overall not too bad.

Room - The room was actually pretty good, except I booked a double and got a twin, but that's typical in Europe. Spacious room and bed was fairly comfy. Coffee facilities and free water is good.

Hotel Facilities - The elevator was the worst I've ever experienced in any building, let alone a hotel. I actually waited 10 minutes for the lift to come to the 9th floor - it would rise to the 8th then go back to ground. It's loud in the room, and lots of French tourists seemed to be waking at 0600 which was pretty disturbing as you can hear everything.

Restaurant - Can only comment on the breakfast, which was good for France. Quite varied hot and cold selection, but €16 was high.

Price - €165 was too much for this hotel. If I paid 100 I would have been happier. Thankfully it wasn't me paying.

Overall, it's OK. Not special, except for the staff who were all very friendly, and did everything to make the stay enjoyable.

Room Tip: Get a low room - there's no view, and getting to the higher rooms takes HOURS
