At Le Jardin des Gastronomes you have no choice but their €16.50 set meal. Of course you can compose your meal choosing one of five different starters, one of five different main courses and one of five different desserts, but you have to order the whole meal. Fine, if that is the rule. But what if I would like to add one more course to my set meal? No way: if you want one more course, you have to order a second full meal!
If you are a couple with a child, you will probably ask for a children's set meal, but the waiter will inform you that such an option is not available: if you think a full meal is too much for your child, then you can share yours. "Can I order a full meal for me and add a main course for my child?" – you will then ask the waiter. "No, you can either order a single full meal for you and share it with your child, or order one full meal for you and one more for your child" – the waiter will inflexibly answer.
At this point, the most reasonable reaction would be to stand up and leave. If you stay, though, you will have nothing more and nothing less than an ordinary dinner. I cannot say the food is bad, but I cannot say it is good either. The portions turn out to be less abundant than they seem at first sight, as all the main courses come with a big side of chips. So, you actually end up stuffing yourself mostly with chips, which you could have done at McDonald's too.
My advice is: if you are looking for a restaurant in the centre of Bordeaux, try some other place.
