“Good location and comfortable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2012

This bed and breakfast is a great find about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Bordeaux. The walk is a pleasant walk through The Jardin Public and we felt safe walking back at night time. The room we stayed in was very comfortable and had a large bathroom with a bath.

Lena is a great host and was happy to answer our questions and provide recommendations and directions for places to eat and drink. Breakfast was fresh and tasty, with a communal table to chat to other guests. Overall a very nice stay for exploring the Bordeaux vineyards.

Tip for Bordeaux: Le Maison de Vin is a very nice wine bar opposite the tourist office (closed on sundays) where you can sample the Bordeaux wines from as little as 2 euro a glass. Snacks (cheese/bread/meats etc) are also available for reasonable prices.

We were only booked for one night and arrived after dark. Leena gave us a wonderful restaurant recommendation about a 10 minute walk from the B&B for dinner. Leena was very friendly and helpful. We had to leave about noon the next day but had time to walk around the area somewhat. It's so quaint and charming there; a really beautiful area to explore if you have time. Breakfast was delicious croissants, jams, yogurt and fresh fruit with large cups of coffee. We stayed in the Dune room and it was comfortable but small for two large suitcases and two people. If I stay again it will definitely be in one of the larger rooms.

My wife and I stayed at Villa Chaleemar for two nights in September. We had confirmation for the Dune room both nights, but Leena had us booked one night in the Dune and one night in the Oyat room, which was fine with us because for 10 euro more you get a bigger room and a bath tub. Leena gave us a wonderful recommendation for dinner the first night within walking distance of the B&B.
The rooms were small, but cozy and tastefully decorated. The beds were surprisingly very comfortable and the breakfast was great ... breads and croissaints with homemade jams and delcious, big cups of coffee. My wife has a gluten intollerance and Leena was kind enough to make her an egg with ham.
There was definitely a faint smell of sewage at times, but no where near as bad as some other raters describe. If Leena's daughter is on duty, don't expect any help. I don't think she cares much for the family business as the two times we inquired about something she quickly shook her head and gave us Leena's phone # (which she never answered) before quickly sliding the common room door in our face. We asked if there was pizza nearby, she said no, but my wife and I found a pizza parlor 2 blocks down the street.
Overall a nice experience and we would return ... very disappointed that we didn't get to visit the rooftop balcony that other raters mention. We didn't even know about it (Leena's daughter checked us in, perhaps she forgot to mention it).

We had the Dunes room, which is attractively decorated in bleached wood / pastels and opens onto the shared interior terrace which is a good sitting area. There is also a lounge with guide books to browse. Only problem with the Dunes room is that it is long, thin, and angled,so the double bed is only fitted in by leaving a tiny gap to squeeze past in getting to the bathroom - which itself has plenty of space including a proper bath.
No cycle storage as such but Leena was willing to store ours in the entrance hall. Agree that Bordeaux a good city for using cycles, though lights and attention needed when returning from city centre restuaurants, as the short cut across the Jardin Public is then closed.

Bordeaux's city center is not exactly my cup of tea so this place was just in a perfect location to escape from all the noises. 15 minutes walk to city center through the park is not exactly troublesome. To cut the story short, the owners here are extremely friendly, the whole accommodation was beautifully decorated and most importantly, it was clean. For the price of 85 euros per room (including breakfast), you would find it hard to find a better deal not only in Bordeaux but anywhere else in major cities. They only have 3 rooms so early reservation is strongly advised.

We stayed for one night in July this year. We had our 1yr old daughter with us and Leena could not have been more accommodating. Her home is beautifully refurbished and every detail thought of. Great location, lovdely deckedarea where we enjoyed a bottle of wine during the eveing, right outside our bedroom so we could be near our daughter. Leena was only too happy to help with baby bottles, microwaving rood etc etc. Breakfast was delicious. Fefinitely recommend!

If you are looking for a welcoming, sophisticated, comfortable French experience while visiting Bordeaux, look no further than Villa Chaleemar. Located in a quiet residential area in the Chartrons quarter, very near the Jardin Public, Villa Chaleemar is filled with minute details that insure an ideal experience for its fortunate guests.

Under the watchful eye of owner Leena Negree, attention to detail makes a stay at this B and B a great French experience. Leena was born and raised near Royan and owned a small B and B on the Ile de Re before coming to Bordeaux. Her love of the Ile de Re is reflected in the warm and cozy decorating of Villa Chaleemar–sophisticated yet perfectly comfortable, making it the perfect place to come back to after a busy day of sightseeing, bicycling or wine tasting.

Leena is a wonderful resource on things to do in the region, and will provide as much or as little advice as a guest wants. Definitely take advantage of her restaurant recommendations if nothing else as you will enjoy secret finds enjoyed by a very select group of tourists. Damien, her equally charming partner is a fabulous resource for everything you want to know about French wine. Together, the two of them provide the perfect amount of hospitality to make Villa Chaleemar a place that you want to go back to again....and again! I am already looking forward to a return visit!

Room Tip: House guests will be happy to know that Leena provides a floor fan with every room, making sleeping...
