“Good and plentiful portions at an excellent price”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

During a short visit to Bordeaux with my friends we visited 'Les Provinces' twice. Both times we enjoyed the excellenty priced 3 course 'formule sympa' (a set menu) at €14.00 each.

There was plenty of choice on the menu and, together, over the two visits we sampled the mussels, seafood salad, seafood terrine, goats cheese, duck, beef, salmon, ray, chicken, crème brûlée and profiteroles!

The mussels starter ('moules') was excellent and its sauce was perfect with the copious amounts of baguette provided. Although the mains were good each time, the ray, salmon and duck were particulary tasty whereas the chicken and the steak were weaker. More sauce on the meat and fish, however, would have been better. For dessert, the profiteroles are an absolute must even if the crème brûlée is smooth with a perfect crack on top. Courses were very large and enough to satisfy the most hungry traveller—and I can assure you, we were ravenous.

On both occasions the service was excellent and the staff were very friendly.

Perhaps the only thing to note here is that the restaurant is fairly casual but for what you pay, you get *much* in return.

“Good value food and friendly helpful staff.”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

stumbled across this place one evening whilst on holiday with my husband and little boy. As my little boy is in a pram and was only on milk (so wasn't eating) we weren't sure if they would be ok with us coming into eat. I needn't have worried they were so friendly they gave us a table that allowed the pram to be next to us and didn't get in the way of others. The waiters were all smiles at our little one and made us feel welcome.

For dinner we went for one of the fixed price menus, lots of choice for the three courses esp for me being a fussy eater. When the food came the portions were a good size and we were very full after the meal.

Why this place stood out for me is due to how the staff were so helpful with our little boy. As with babies we needed to do a nappy change and knew that there wouldn't be baby changing room but we were fine to make do with normal toilets. when we asked were the toilets were they asked was it was the baby and when we said yes they directed my husband and baby to a corner at the back of the restaurant. The waiter pulled accross the corner a screen and pulled out a table that could be use as a baby changing platform. It was just the kindness that the staff showed that helped make this a great visit.

I would recommend this place to anyone visiting bordeaux esp if they have children.

“Busy restaurant but not wonderful”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Having tried to get into 2 or 3 other restaurants which were full, we walked past Les Provinces and it looked very busy which is generally promising. Range of fixed price menus from €13.50 to €23 plus A La Carte. To be frank the dishes were quite bland. My wife asked for her steak to be medium but it was practically rare. The plates were filled up with chips which were disappointing. The desserts were OK.

“Bad food, canteen style”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

The place is very big and noisy, the service is ok, but the food is not that good, it needed tast. The cheese board for desert was only a slice of cheese, butter and a regular salad that, for me, is intended to eat during the meal or for start, not for desert.

“Great food, great price”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Really good value food. We had the 13,50€ menu, which included 3 courses from a large choice. We had steaks which were delicious! Service could have been better but for the price we couldn't fault it.
