“Bad food, canteen style”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

The place is very big and noisy, the service is ok, but the food is not that good, it needed tast. The cheese board for desert was only a slice of cheese, butter and a regular salad that, for me, is intended to eat during the meal or for start, not for desert.

“Great food, great price”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

Really good value food. We had the 13,50€ menu, which included 3 courses from a large choice. We had steaks which were delicious! Service could have been better but for the price we couldn't fault it.

“You pay for what you get”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

12.50 € lunch menu, lots of choice, and yes this will never be considered gastronomic, but it fills the void if you need a bite to eat. We found the service to be good, friendly and surprisingly fast, which is opposite to many posters here, guess we had them on a good day. We had entree: mussels (huge bowl full) and warm goat cheese salad. mussels were pretty tasty, although the sauce at the bottom was a bit salty. Hubby said the salad was good tasting. For the mains we had basque chicken (sauce tasted slightly canned, but he still enjoyed it) and I had the sirloin steak, which was surprisingly perfectly cooked (I'm a stickler for a very rare steak, not tartare mind you) although it did have a big piece of fat attached (easily cut off while eating) and a bit too heavy on the shallot sauce. Desserts - chocolate mousse (tad sweet) and creme brûlée (not bad).

All in all, if you are hungry and on a budget, there is nothing wrong with this place.

“Don't be mean, it does a good job!”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

There have been some really unhelpful reviews of this restaurant on this site, Really, if you want Haute Cuisine, Gourmet or Chic, pop down the bottom of the street to "Gabriel", mind you it will cost you a couple of hundred quid (pounds sterling) more!
Les Provinces seats nearly 200 diners on two floors (ground floor good, upstairs like a refectory!)and is regularly busy. Why? because it is cheap, cheerfull and gives hearty portions with the cheapest Formula Menu coming in at 13.50Euros (about £11 in real money!) for 3 courses.
Extensive menus, even for the Formulas and full a la carte also.
Example; I had last night, Assiette de Charcuterie followed by Piece de Beouf with Sauce Echalotte, then Iles Flottante for Pud. plenty of bread and 1/2 litre jug of Rose for an extra 5Euros.
Portions for starter and main were larger than you would expect for the price. Service Excellent, waitress' attentive and very hard working.
Families very welcome (not my cup of tea, but it's holiday time!)
We have been regular visitors to Les Provinces, have also taken friends and, apart from a dodgy jug of red a couple of years ago, have not been let down.
Remember, you get what you pay for and Les Provinces always delivers.

“Middle range restaurant”
Reviewed June 2, 2012

Well nothing specific. If you are hungry, this can be a place.
But not for a good meal.
Service is average, reflecting food.
