Most enjoyable experience: an attractive and interesting part of Bordeaux; quiet side street; beautifully restored building, tastefully decorated; comfortable, clean facilities; lovely, welcoming people; delightful breakfast. We hope to stay again.

My husband and I stayed here on a whim, entirely based on trip advisor reviews and we were not disappointed! We stayed during the heat wave in June in the attic room. The hosts were so accommodating! They even put an air cooling unit and a wireless router in the room to make it more comfortable. The place itself is very charming and the breakfast was awesome consisting of croissants and homemade jams, fresh fruit, juice and yogurt. Perfect. The location was great, walking distance to everything. In previous reviews, people complained about the stairs but if you are traveling in Europe, you have to get over that!

We stayed just one night at Ecolodge des Chartrons on our way through to the coast. What a beautiful building and lovely home with lots of style and comfort. We were treated very warmly and loved our room, The Tuscany. Breakfast was delicious, served at one big table, with our genial host attending to our every need. We had a good evening meal at Le Carre Restaurant in a square just around the corner .. and enjoyed walking around the lively neighbourhood, which seemed to be a real community, with lots of cafes and little shops and friendly people. If you are coming by car to Ecolodge they have two parking spaces in their garage which you need to book in advance. This was our first visit to Bordeaux and we shall definitely try to visit for longer next time and to stay at Ecolodge des Chartrons again.

Room Tip: We are sure all the rooms are lovely.

It's not trendy--far from it. It's not hip. And it's not all together. But it's a friendly, cozy, interesting alternative in the middle of Bordeaux (in the less touristy Chartrons area), run by a couple that lives there. Most rooms open onto a central courtyard, which doubles as the breakfast area, so those rooms can be a bit noisy. But we liked our room, which had a modern bathroom, and it was just a few minutes from the light rail--which goes everywhere.

The house is gorgeous and relaxing, and Yann is a charming and knowledgable host who knows Bordeaux and surrounds and is very helpful with suggestions for restaurants, vineyards etc.
The location is fantastic, you can walk to almost anywhere in Bordeaux either along the river or wandering through the interesting streets nearby full of antique shops and specialty boutiques. As long as you can manage a couple of flights of delightful centuries-old stone stairs you will love this place, as we did.

Room Tip: Front rooms with windows opening to the street

We arrived in Bordeaux in Sept 2009 but I never got around to writing a review. Better late than never! I 100% recommend this B&B to anyone travelling to Bordeaux. The hosts were very accommodating and made us feel right at home. We booked a tour recommended by Veronique with the Bordeaux tourist office. We took the Grand Cru tour and really enjoyed it! She also recommended a wonderful restaurant within walking distance of Eco Lodge. I can’t remember the name but it was a seafood restaurant and it was perhaps the best meal we had during our 2 weeks in France. I’m sure Veronique will remember the name since she said she tells all her guests to go there. Here is a breakdown of our stay:

Location: Amazing! We walked everywhere. It was close to the train and it was within walking distance to some really nice restaurants, wine bars and even the tourist office where we met for our wine tour.

Room: Super clean, comfortable, and spacious. The bathroom was amazing. We reserved the “slate room” but I’m sure there are all great.

Breakfast: Very good. I can’t remember the specifics, but I clearly remember her jam being super fresh and tasty!

If I am to say one negative thing – it’s that we had to go up a long flight of stairs to get to our rooms. We over packed and it was hard to go up those stairs. But in all fairness, I did expect those stairs before we got there.. so just prepare yourself!

This is the kind of place you see on TV or in a magazine and think that looks so amazing, and it really is!

My partner and I stopped here for 5 nights and enjoyed every second. A building with amazing character and history, lovingly converted into a 'green' haven.

The amazing covered courtyard, where we had breakfast, was so inviting and welcoming, with such character.

Veronique is an amazing host, with a wealth of real local knowledge and offered several fantastic ideas for things to see and do, the best of which had to be to go to Saint Emilion. You really feel like you are a guest in Veroniques home, with all the warmth and affection but without feeling you were intruding.

The location is great for true tourists, surround by local Deli's and restaurant and far enough away from all the 'bright lights' of tourist trails, yet close enough just in case.

Even if you are not a 'green' person this is an amazing place, with a fantastic host to ensure you have a fantastic stay.
