Climb the 2-3 flights to the balcony and take a few pictures of the Petite France. Basically this is just a pedestrian river crossing, but has a good view from the top.

When you take the Batorama or take a stroll over the canals in petite France you can clearly see these large historical structures. During the boat tour you hear the full story as to why how and when these were built. Currently they make striking landmarks in petite France over the canals. In summer there are various illuminations in Strasbourg, and I once saw a laser show over these barrages, which was extremely impressive. I have not seen this light show over the barrage in 2013 for some reason.

Beautiful on its own, terrace of this dam really gives you the great view of the start of the petit france and surrounding bridges. It's free to go up there and the lower part is used as a bridge over channel. It has it's own historic value too, as it was built in 17th century to prevent acces and attacks by river from that side.

If you walk along the top, the views of the city are beautiful. Great photo ops. Try to make this one of your paths heading into or out of Petite France. You can also see it from the river if you take the boat tour, which was interesting.
