“Nice choice close to the old city”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

We have spent a weekend at the hotel. The biggest advantage was its location:next to the train station and next to a closed parking station and in a walking distance to the old city. The hotel was clean and our room very confortable for 2 adults and 2 children. The only drawback was the internet which was not working during our stay. We did not have breakfast at the hotel but there are plenty of places to enjoy croissants with coffee nearby.

Room Tip: Room 313 was really confortable

Hotel Nid de Cigognes in Strasbourg could not be more accessible to the train station. It is a multi-story hotel within walking distance of most of Strasbourg's tourist highlights. Not luxury by any means. The rooms are austere but comfortable. Not large, no décor to speak of (not even pictures on the walls), but fine for a place to sleep. When we arrived, France was experiencing a scorching heatwave. No a/c, as is standard in France. But the hotel staff found a portable fan, which helped a small bit. Hot air circulating is better than no air at all. Breakfast at 10 euros was a bit high but not unreasonable. The front desk staff was excellent, with one graciously calling several close-by restaurants to find out if any were air conditioned. Friendly, good hotel.

We traveled as a couple and stayed one night - I would not have wanted another. Cons: The elevator broke down on Saturday evening app. 8 pm and was still not fixed by Sunday morning 9 am, just a note saying that the door on the 3rd floor was defect, please go to the 4th floor and walk down. The room barely had room for the double bed, the mattress had a depression in the center with the sides higher than the middle, the floor was noticeably sloped. The furniture, carpets and walls were used, dingy and outdated (orange walls, blue carpet). Pros: The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, answering questions and providing information (in French; we didn't try using English). The free WLAN connection worked surprisingly well on the 4th floor although the desk clerk had warned us that there could be insufficient signal strength. The location is very good, right next to the train station with a streetcar running app. every 20 minutes, a six-minute trip to Homme de Fer with another five minutes on foot to the cathedral. There are several restaurants and grocers and bakeries within five minutes walking distance. If the furnishings were improved this could be a very cozy place; as it is I will not return.

Welcoming and friendly hotel, good location across for the station and easy walking distance to shopping and attractions. Lovely and clean and reasonably quiet (the traffic could be heard at times). A little pricey for what was offered, however I would still recommend this hotel.

I always prefer to stay near the rail station in strasbourg for you can easily park and walk into town easily.

This hotel is right on the square of the train station, offering spacious room and friendly service. The price is very good too!

The only problem is the noise from the hollow square part of the building (structure of french buildings?)can be easily heard, not for light sleepers.

Tip: if you would like to park your car, please arrange through the hotel, you will get a better deal like 9.5 euros per day!

Room Tip: not inside towards the hollow square!

We planned a last minute trip to Strasbourg and were looking for a dog-friendly hotel. We found it with the Hôtel Nid de Cigognes. Although it is located just across from the train station and on a fairly busy road, with the windows closed, the street noise was minimal and not disruptive. Every member of the staff we interacted with was very nice to us as well as our 2 dogs. We did not eat the breakfast because we felt it a bit expensive but there is a great bakery around the corner and the room had coffee/tea in it. The hotel is an easy walk to Petit-France and the Cathedral. Parking is a short walk away and quite affordable when paid for through the hotel, but we were able to load and unload the car in front of the hotel with no problems. Our room was fairly basic but clean and comfortable enough for a short stay.

Room Tip: If traveling in warmer months, where one would need to have the windows open to sleep comfortably, I...

The hotel was very reasonably priced (210 Euros for 3 of us for 3 nights) but this didn't include breakfast which was very expensive at 10 Euros per person. The beds were comfortable but I have given an average for sleep quality because my bed had a broken leg which made the mattress slip a little ( I made staff aware of this as soon as I realised why this was happening) and we had quite a lot of noise 'floating' up to our room from the street below) The room was clean and cleaned and tidied every day but the hotel generally (public areas in particular) feels like it needs a little bit of T.L.C. Staff smiled and greeted us when we were coming and going.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel because, although the views are fantastic from the front, th...
