“Great location, nice room/bath, disappointing breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

The location is very convenient if you are driving. It is very close to the highway, and it is easy to walk into the city center for dining and sightseeing. Parking is underground and there seemed to be a lot of it. The hotel is very modern looking, the air conditioning worked nicely. The elevators were prompt, even if a little small. The room was nicely appointed and the bathroom was very comfortable. The water pressure was good, the bed was firm but comfortable, and extra pillows were provided. The room was very quiet, which I liked a lot, especially after a long day of traveling. The only thing I was disappointed in was the breakfast buffet. To be honest, it might have been a buffet laid out just for our group, but the selection was small, food ran out, and what was there wasn't that great. Just a few types of bread (not fresh, which is disappointing for a French hotel) and cut fruit, 1 type of cheese, 1 type of yogurt (served in a bowl, not individual), etc. I was really disappointed. I hope that my experience with breakfast was an exception and not the rule! I might stay here again if my breakfast was free...then the hotel would have a second chance to woo me...otherwise, I might try a boutique hotel instead to get a more french experience.

We arrived and stayed one night. No pre booking. The guy in the reception was very nice and helpful. He gave us information that really enhanced our stay. The breakfast is wonderful. Lots of fresh fruit and berries, and also the standard things like bacon and scrambled eggs. Very fresh! We also got great help from the concierge. He recommended a restaurant and also made the reservation for us. The room we stayed in, junior suite, (family of four) was spacious, very clean and comfortable. Sofitel also has all the stuff you need provided for you. Coffee machine, ipod player, different things in the bathroom. I recommend this hotel and I will stay there again :-) Ah, one more thing, the location is perfect. It is right in the middle of everything, without being on the noisy spot. You walk one block and then you are in the restaurant area. i would say max 10 minutes from Little France. Great wi-fi, free of course.

Room Tip: I would say junior suite if you are a family. Very nice and not too crowded.

We booked through booking.com and got the tiniest rooms (oncly slightly larger than the bed) though bathroom was spacious. Breakfast outragesouly expensive (25 Euro pp). Fitness room has no curtains so blinding sun in your eyes if you excercise in the morning.
We stayed one night at the Mercure Hotel on Rue du Maire Kuss - location just as good, room about the same size and much better value for the price (plus free nespresso and great breakfast fo 10 Euros).

I had been few times for business at Sofitel Strasbourg. The location is very convenient as it is easy to access by car from the highway and is walking distance from the very center (2 min walk to Kleber square). The buffet for breakfast is very good with some nice local products and this is the only place in this hotel where service is efficient. Check out can take 20 minutes with one person effectively working and two or three are surrounding the desk area, welcoming you to check out but not doing much. But the worst service was when I came with my family and out of all orders for from service, not one could be delivered according to the order (and I speak French). Service for drinks at the terrace is slow and tables are not cleaned rapidly. Overall, the impression is that there is a lot of staff very polite, nice and smiling but not very effective. With rooms that are not very spacious and a gym that does not deserve such a title (very small room), the experience is at best rated average.

I thought I was booking the best room in town with a hefty price to match. Showed up early and our room wasn't ready. No problem, I understand check in is 2 pm. We returned at 2:15 and the room still wasn't ready so they made the decision to give us a room directly over the bar where the hotel had live music until midnight and the noise was unbearable. When I complained I was told it was a special day in France where live music is played all over the country. That's a great tradition, so happy for them but when I pay for a luxury hotel room, I expect to be able to sleep and really, not much more than that. And, most importantly, the noise was coming from the hotel, not the rest of the city. Very poor choice to put us (including my 73 yr old mother) in this room. They knew it, didn't have clean rooms at the appropriate time and did it anyway. I was offered earplugs for my trouble. This is not luxury. Not the Sofitel you'd experience in the States. I could live with the somewhat tacky purple decor but I really didn't care for the location on top of the noise issue.
