“Comfortable Hotel”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Friendly & Helpful staff at reception.. Air conditioning was great in a heatwave time. Mini bar in room & free tea & coffee was good as well. Beds a bit creaky & soft but overall comfortable. Large room & bathroom but no shower screen. Outside night noise was tolerable. Didn't have breakfast there. Can walk from train station but a map would help. Good base and easy walk around. Tram system with a 24hr ticket to all local stops-4euro. Has a small lift.

We had a good time at Hotel De France. The entrance is not impressive, but the employees are very friendly an helpfull. They gave their utmost to help you and let you feel at home in a warm surrounding. Our room was good and breakfast was good as well with quite some choice. The airco in our room worked perfectly, which was a blessing at more than 30 C outside. The hotel is located at the isle of the city, Little Paris is about a 5 minutes walk and the cathedral about 10 minutes. When we return to Strasbourg we will definitely choose this hotel again.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night in June with our 6 months old baby. The room was big and clean with separate bathroom and toilet and comfortable beds. A crib was provided for our baby (no extra costs). In the room we had a coffee/tea maker and a minibar. There is also a machine in the lobby to make coffee or tea anytime you want and free WiFi. The breakfast buffet was nice.We had to use a public parking but we received a discount from the hotel when we checked out. The only minus for this hotel is the fact that they put on our bill a Batorama ticket (9 euro) that we never received... We only noticed after the check out.

I stayed one night at Best Western Hôtel de France with my parents. Located at a walking distance to the attractions of the city centre and not very far from the railway station, this hotel provided a perfect base for our short visit to Strasbourg.

The family room we stayed at was very spacious: there were one double bed and two single beds, a sofa and table, a writing desk, a bathroom and a separate toilet. A wide balcony overlooked a little square. Wireless internet was available in the room.

While separate bathroom and toilet is a pleasant feature, some strange design choices had been made for the bathroom. A glass wall that spans one third of the length of the bath tub is not very helpful in avoiding the splashing of water all around while taking a shower. Furthermore, we could not figure out where to hang all our towels (apart from over the said glass wall). A few towel hooks would be a significant yet inexpensive improvement.

The real downside of the room was the temperature. I could not sleep very well: it was too hot with the blanket and too cold without the blanket. My mother was complaining about the same thing.

The breakfast buffet was all right. Coffee and tea were served in the dining room in the afternoon.

The staff at reception were kind and helpful.

We were 2 families traveling together so we were in need of a quad and a triple. We booked this place through Hotels.com and then I immediately contacted the hotel in Strasbourg to confirm the reservation. So glad I did. While my sister-in-law was guaranteed her triple, the hotel had run out of quad rooms. Imagine if my family had shown up expecting the quad and being told, sorry, no room at the inn. Instead, they offered us 2 doubles with an extra 40 Euro per night fee. I needed a little more time to go back on the internet to see if I could beat that rate and couldn't. So we did book with Hotel de France the 2 double rooms. Throughout this process they were courteous and respectful and confirmed with us via email the change in the reservation. Hotels.com will not receive much of my business in the future as our last transaction with them ended up with a guarantee of free parking and when we got to the hotel we were told that the parking is never free at their hotel and didn't honor Hotels.com commitment to us. The double rooms were tiny even by European standards, but very clean offering only soap as toiletries if that is important to you. In the bathroom if you check the hair dryer, you can plug in your 110 v cell phone, ipad, laptop etc to recharge, a wonderful perk. Internet was free. The triple was much roomier with a balcony and I know that the quads have balconies as well but there are only 4 of quad rooms. It was a ten minute walk from the train station, but in the heart of downtown Strasbourg. Breakfast was 7 euro for one hot drink, one juice, 2 pastries or one bread/butter/jam. For an additional 7 euros you could receive the full buffet with meat, cheeses, yogurt, etc. We passed on the breakfast and went to bakeries each of the 3 days we were there. Wow, the French know how to bake! The customer service was excellent and the main reason why we would go back. They took the time to give us directions and explain how to get from one attraction to the next. They do add an extra 3 Euro per night fee to everyone's bill. A little about the attractions that they recommended: We loved the Alsation Museum (thanks for the great reviews on TA). We were underwhelmed with the Astronomical Clock at the cathedral which has a 25 minute filmstrip in different languages (so you stand with a huge group of people throughout the interpretations) and the canal boats were not working that day because the water was too high. We did enjoy climbing the cathedrals. We climbed 2. Not only was it a great family workout, but the views of the city were gorgeous at each platform we stopped at to take a breath. The Christmas markets although wonderful, don't rival the German markets but they are open after Christmas which only a few which remain open in Germany. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: The triples and quads have balconies. This hotel is only 5 floors and we were on the 5th floor. Very...

Went to Strasbourg to visit friends who had recently moved there after 3yrs in Princeton NJ. As it was the start of the Christmas Market trying to find a room was a challenge.. The hotel was well place for walking around and everything was easily reached. The hotel was clean and staff very friendly and helpful.. 5mins from the train station and trams 2mins away getting around the city was very simple.. Would certainly stay here again.

I stayed for just one night at Hotel de France in Strasbourg, and I do not think I could stand another one. We had reservation for four people, but when we arrived at the hotel, we saw only three beds in the room. We talked to the guy in reception, who told us that the girl that was in reception before forgot the child in the reservation, that is why we only had 3 beds. He then told me he could not put another bed in the room because he was THE ONLY PERSON working that evening!!! The he assigned two rooms. To make it short, our family - me, my husband and two kids - would have stay in two rooms. The othe room was simply awful. No heating, no light, no towels, no soap, no shampoo!!! The other room was very tiny, as well as it television set. We asked to come back to the first room, and my husband had to sleep in another tiny room on some other floor. All the time, the guy in the reception did nothing.
The rooms were ok in what concerns comfortr, bue all the rest as very bad.
