“Lovely in every way!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We very much enjoyed our three night stay here in Petit France, Strasbourg. We were in the loft room which was very comfortable and very quiet, although we did like to leave the windows open at night to hear the water gushing around either side of the hotel (being a former water mill - somehow used to make ice!). The front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was very pleasant (despite no toaster) and dinner on the deck overlooking the canal felt surreal, as the outlook is beautiful across to the half timbered houses. Great position as well, easy walk to all the sights.

The Regent is located in the cobblestone streets of Strasbourg's Old City. I believe the building was once a mill and a river/mill slices through past and through it, with other historic building's lining the water, their reflections shimmering in the water. It can feel magical, the planners of Disneyland must've wandered through it.

The hotel, itself, has an attractive lobby. The room was sleek and more than ample and looked out on a plaza--very nice. Service at the desk was terrific: friendly and knowledgeable. Restaurants were abundant nearby, serving a full range of cuisine, including traditional Alsatian food (lots of sausage; lots of cheese!)

The cathedral in Strasbourg is magnificent; it's stained glass windows are ethereal. And on the city's periphery is the European Parliament and other EU related buildings, their modernism a far cry from Strasbourg's quaint old town and its soaring Gothic cathedral.

We were traveling the countryside of France for two weeks staying mostly at B&Bs, so we decided to treat ourselves for one night at a four star hotel. This is a nice, clean, relaxing hotel. However, the lobby is trying to be slick with a club like feeling. The room was big, with a comfortable bed topped with amazing covers. We had a lovely small balcony overlooking the beautiful river. The sauna at the hotel is great (but really hot!)

We paid over two hundred dollars and felt it was pricey. I do believe they have specials. The location is great, but a pain to drive to. We ended up parking at a street spot for the day - needed to fill the meter, but only during the day. This was fine for the one night, but obviously not an option for a longer-term stay. They concierge offered to park our car for us (parking fee, of course), but getting onto the island area of Petite France with all the windy one-way streets just didn't seem worth it with our limited time.

If you're interested in winstub for dinner we recommend Au Coin des Pucelies on rue des Pucelles. They serve mounds of choucroute and other hearty dishes. If you have enough of Jambon there is a wonderful Vegetarian restaurant close by called Poeles de Carottes on 2 place des Meuniers. They have great lunch specials for 22 euros.

Luxurious, gracious, perfect location. Couldn't be in a better place in Strasbourg. Delicious breakfast, perfect rooms, view to die for. Can't recommend it enough and wouldn't consider any other place.

Room Tip: Facing the water

This is a lovely hotel situated right in the middle of Petite France and the tourist areas. It is easily within walking distance to everything. The rooms are really clean and well furnished with modern decor. Staff at the hotel were all very friendly and very helpful - they were always greeting you, smiling and all speak English which is obviously very helpful. You can easily see why it is a 4 star hotel. The atmosphere within the hotel was very calm and peaceful. The hotel actually sits over part of the river and there is a lovely terrace to sit out on. We had a Junior Suite that was very spacious and it also looked out over the river. There are many restaurants within easy walking distance. Parking was easy and we had a choice of a secured garage or outside parking. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the extra and get a room overlooking the river

This is the third time we stay at the Regent. It is an excellent hotel which carries its 4 stars with ease, it is in some aspects also a 5-star hotel. It is separated into three different building which all connects to the lobby.

The location is absolutely superb to examine Strasbourg and Alsace. You will live spot-on in the middle of the main tourist attraction, Petit France and you are within walking distance on the trams, the Cathedral, Place Kleber for the Christmas market as well as everything else. You reach 10+ restaurants within 100 meters of walking, some just 30-40 meters away.

The deluxe room we got was spacious, well equipped, elegant and had a great view towards the river. It had a well-space bathroom with closet, in tub-shower, double sinks, hairdryer and clothes dryer.

The hallways, the elevators and the rest of the hotel is also great. Very clean everywhere and with nice aspects such as transparent walls to the old mill, which shows large wheels and pumps. The river flows under the hotel in some parts, which is really charming. At night, you can hear the river if you open the windows. It is a great way to fall asleep.

The hotel really shines when it comes to service and the people. They are prompt, smiling, always asks if there is anything else - and they all speak and understand English perfectly. I always felt that our needs were 101% attended to.

We skipped the breakfast this time as there are many good places around to have breakfast instead. We also did not get to use the Sauna & fitness-facility, but we know that they are very good. Highly recommended for both business & pleasure.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe room with a view towards the river.

Parents+3 children, stayed there this August. Great location - within Petite France and walking distance from other main attractions. Beautiful and modern furnished rooms and public areas. Had 2 rooms with river view - lovely! all staff members were most welcoming.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the river ile
