Our visit to the Strasbourg Cathedral was a highlight of our stay -- beautiful and historic, poetry in stone.
Our family visited here and we couldn't believe how beautiful the inside was (the outside is currently having building work on it). Security on the door were very polite and you could spend as long as you wanted inside.
The cathedral tower stood as the tallest structure in the world for 227 years until it's reign ended in 1874. The Gothic/Romanesque architecture is really something to behold. My favorites were the symbolically arched entrances and the stained glass inside. The only downer was we couldn't climb to the top for the panoramic view (under renovations but apparently reopening July 29, 2019).
The Strasbourg Cathedral towers above everything else in Strasbourg. It is an amazing structure that looks very fragile and it would take hours to look at all the details on the outside. Inside is impressive on it’s own. Many beautiful stained glass windows and more. Do not miss seeing this marvelous site.
We arrived just in time to see the video presentation of the astronomical clock, which is a technological marvel! Fascinating that it has been operating perfectly for 180 years without electricity. The cathedral itself is also beautiful, but the clock to me was the most unique.
