“A bit of a tourist trap, but lovely old building”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2014

We went to the Kammerzell for the special offer of two fish choucroutes for the price of one. After a bit of a climb to reach our table on the 3rd floor, we waited for a long time. Even though we had preordered a dish that shouldn`t take that long to prepare. The waiter was nice enough and apologetic, but there was not much of an atmosphere in the room. The food when it finally came, was OK, but nothing special. The price was very reasonable. The wonderful old house is a treat, but the restaurant could perhaps do with a bit more care.

“Alsatian for tourists”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2014

Fantastic location in a historic building just by the Cathedral. The place is noisy and a little crowded. The tables a little too small. Good atmosphere and a competent service. And do not look for innovation here! Instead, expect well executed alsatian favourites (Wide range of Choucrout varieties) and a sensible wine list. Prices according to the history and location of the house, with a "tourist trap" hint!

“Can you say "Tourist trap"?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2014

We got into Strasbourg and asked the hotel staff if they could recommend a restaurant. They recommended this one and told us they were having a 2 for 1 Special. The 2 for 1 was a fish dinner. Of course we were tired and hungry and the Prix Fix 3 course option was more attractive. The food was OK but for $89 euros for 2 people and a modest bottle of wine, we could have definitely found a better option.

I had some of my dinner left and because we had a refrigerator in the room, I asked the waiter if he could provide a container to go. He said he would have to check with the kitchen. He came back and said "It isn't allowed because if you get sick the restaurant doesn't want to get blame" I didn't argue but thought you've got to be kidding, 89euros for so-so food and I can't even take my paid for leftover?

Admire the restaurant from the outside as it is purportedly one of the oldest buildings in Strasbourg, but try to find better options for dinner

“Bad treatment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

We were very disappointed because of being treated very badly. The food was not so nice. We thought we wasted time and money! I never recommend this place.

“A bit disapppointed...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2014

Who's this man at the entrance? Is he supposed to make you feel comfortable, welcome you or to let you guess you're not welcomed in this place....? Looks you right in the eyes, in a suspicious way. OK, let's go upstairs..... noisy room, dirty, not to say disgusting toilets......just couldn't believe it!!!!!!!! The choucroute is so delicious, but is the kitchen as filthy as the bathrooms........
