“worst restaurant ever”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2012

We read a glowing review about this restaurant in Frommer's but we were greatly disappointed. They mixed up our order first. Then we waited for our food for 1 1/2 hours. We told the waiter that if we didn't get our food right now that we would pay for the appetizers and leave. Then instead of apologizing or saying that he would check what was going on, he said that there are a lot of people here and not just you, that they are very busy and that maybe the food would come in a few minutes. When we finally got our food, it was terrible. No flavor and the meat was tough. It wasn't cooked well and was barely edible. We were sick and tired of waiting for so long so we just paid and left before getting dessert. For shame, Frommer's, for pushing this tourist trap.

“They should be ashamed of themselves.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

Maison Kammerzel is a gem of a building, right alongside Strasbourg's stunningly beautiful cathedral. How awful then that the experience my party and I had during dinner on Friday 3rd August was one of the worst I have EVER had. We had a table for 6 on the terrace, which we had requested, but which they couldn't guarantee over the phone, so it was a pleasant surprise to get the table. It was all downhill from there. We ordered a bottle of Cremant d'Alsace, our indifferent waitress brought Champagne, without explanation, and which had already been opened. Then our waiter arrived to take orders - he was a very special chap, and had clearly chosen the wrong vocation. He was surly, abrupt, and utterly inefficient. Our starters took a reasonably long time to arrive, and were passable. The main courses then took a further hour, despite asking him, and his manager several times to see if we could get our food. When the food finally did arrive, it was pretty poor for the most part, and a faux filet which one of our party had ordered was so tough as to be inedible. We called the manager, who took it back, without apology. When the bill arrived, they had not charged for the faux filet, but I found it extraordinary that they never asked what was wrong with the meal in the first place.

To me, this restaurant abuses its its location, and exemplifies a venue where tourists can expect to be ripped-off. To be avoided at all costs.

“Average and expensive - but very good location.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

I do understand that it has got THE prime location and this might be the reason for the high prices. The location is unbeatable. Service was friendly, but slow (mainly because of the reason that they were fully booked). Go there for a drink for the experience, eat somewhere else.

“Tourist trap”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012 via mobile

Certainely one of the best location with a lot of history. However, you will encounter terrible, ignorant service. The food is average and don't ask for anything special. After we left, nobody replied to our thank you and good night. If you like France and Strasbourg don't disappoint your experience with this mass tourism location.

“Good food in historic setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

I must admit I was a bit doubtful about this restaurant given some of the reviews I had read but my friends and I enjoyed a really good meal here with generous portions. The menu includes some vegetarian options which is unusual for an Alsatian restaurant.
