“PLEASANT ENOUGH BUT EXPENSIVE”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Reception was friendly and efficient and the room was large with a balcony but it had a tired and dated feel. The bathroom was large but had a shower/bath with no screen. Two soaps and shampoo provided. The WC was separate and poorly ventilated. Breakfast was very comprehensive but with no fresh fruit and the croissant was dry.

The restaurant capitalised on the fact that it was almost the only place to eat in town at that time of year. The food was pleasant enough but quite expensive for that standard.

This was Day 5 of our 25 day trek through Les Vosges.
Last night: Hotal Restaurant du Chateau in Lichtenberg
Tomorrow: Hotel National in Saverne

Difficult to choose between three (average) and four (good): the hotel is simple, nothing special, typical for hotels in small villages like La Petite Pierre. But for its size it was a great pleasure to stay with them.
Personal is service oriented, and warm-hearted. As this is the Elzas region, they speak German and French (which is confusing).
The garden is worth a visit as it is HUGE with a very nice view and calm & relaxed.
Breakfast costs 11 euro, but the buffet is complete and fresh. They serve the standard selection: bread, croissants, yoghurt, nuts, cerials, jam, chees, ham, eggs, fruit, coffee, tea, etc. Again good, simple, complete, nothing special.
Rooms are simple, a bit outdated (like in many hotels in small french villages) but clean. Beds are okey but covered with blankets while I prefer duvets. Bathroom with bath and shower and a toilet. We had a room in the front (with balcony): although next to the road we could keep the balcony door open all night as the road is very very quiet at night. It can get quit hot inside as the sun is shining in your room all afternoon. Ask the cleaning lady to keep the curtains shot (or make a note).
Wifi is available. It worked on my laptop, but couldn't get it working on my iphone (or on the iphone of one of my travelpartners). Internet connection is a bit slow aswel.
We also had diner at this hotel, which was superb.

Hotel des Vosges in La Petite Pierre is a gem.

Beautiful setting with a lovely forest background and fresh mountain air. Very nice, clean room with a balcony overlooking the forest and kitchen garden, and a superb sauna and spa facility that we to ourselves most of the time. Can't believe it's onlu 2 stars.

The restuarant is wonderful and the Wehrung family, who own and run the place are the perfect hosts.

We'll be back.
