We had a warmly welcome at the restaurant, the food is good especially the braised pork knuckle: the best that I ever ate in Colmar!
The price-quality ratio is also very well!

La Taverne is situated in the medieval part of Colmar - an area well worth visitinrg as break from the north-South motorway.
Good ambience, with many Alsacienne specialities. The the steaks whilst tasty were rather chewy. Good sized portions though and the huge apple galette for afters (more like a large sweet pizza) made sure that the appetite was well and truly satisifed.
A useful tip - La Taverne is open on a Monday evening - a night when many of the other restaurants are closed.

My family of six arrived at this quaint restaurant with reservations and was seated immediately. Our waiter brought us our drinks and then people just started pouring into the restaurant. I think in about a 10 minute time span about 15 separate tables came in (between 2 and 6 persons per table). The waiter and presumably cook were the only staff there so needless to say service was horrible!!! However, the escargot was to die for!!!! Excellent, probably the best we've ever had. And the schweinehaxen was also quite delicious. The pizzas were pretty bad (though I am from Chicago where pizza is incredible) so I'd skip those entirely.

We have been there with the family. Kids had 'kid's menu' with wurstel and fries.OK. my wife had pork axe, very good. I chose the pave, a sort of very thick fillet. Together with the waitress, i chose 'a point' (rare-medium cooking), but i received non a pave but two thin slices of fillet, non medium cooking but 'well done', very 'well done', too much 'well done'. Wine was good and not too much expensive. waitress was 'amaible'. but pave was not french pave.

We found this restaurant slightly off the main tourist drag through the Old Town and were pleasantly surprised to be in the company of locals enjoying the pavement terrace on a Sunday evening. The one waitress (the patronne?) was cheerful and provided reasonably quick service. The local specialities - salade paysanne and tourte de la vallee - were excellent, as was the house Edelzwicker wine, while my wife declared she had never seen such a huge meringue glacee. All this enjoyment for slightly over £30 in a major tourist city - great value.
