If you are an early bird and have arrived for sightseeing to Colmar on Sunday morning, the 10 o'clock ride on petit-train is a good choice. You will witness how the empty streets gradually are filling up with tourists, shops open, etc. and by the time you finish your ride the town will have changed from empty to full. A good thing with these trains is that while riding you can decide what is worthy revisiting afterwards on foot.

Great way to see the place, especially when the sun shines, which seems to be most of the time here. Great for families / kids / elderly.

We have been to MANY places throughout Europe over the last 3 years and this is one of our favorite tours to date. It is a shame is doesnt run during the winter months, when there is no snow.

This is a 35 minute casual ride on a tram with headsets prerecorded with narration (several languages to choose from). The narration is pretty sparse (e.g. lots of stretches with music only), but enough to make it worthwhile. It's a good thing to do when you're first into town - gives you a nice overview of some of the major sites and a bit of background so that when you see them on your later jaunts around town you appreciate them more.

The time of year we were there (December) the trains run only in the morning - every half hour starting at 9.

The place where the train starts can be a little tricky to find. It's kinda opposite the entrance to the "Musee d'Unterlinden" - look for the large green "sandwich board" signs if the little green train isn't sitting there.

TIP: You buy your tickets on the train itself - just grab a seat where you like and someone will eventually be along to collect your money and give you a ticket. It's good to know, because the seats can go pretty fast, and there were people who lost out on the train we were taking because they were trying to queue up behind someone they thought was selling tickets (only to be told to just go take a seat on the train).

It looks like a train, and give a very brief overview of the city and its sights and history. The classical music was a nice addition to the commentary. We did seem to go around the same bits a couple of times, and it was difficult to get your bearings so that you can walk around the area afterwards. Would have liked to have had a map on the brochure that was provided. Driver was very pleasant and slipped from one language to another with ease. A cheap activity which was ok!
