We've stayed in the Marechal for a number of years now, on and off, during our annual winter pilgrimage to the Austrian mountains.
The hotel externally pushes winter kitsch to almost its limits (and its up against some pretty tough competition in a Christmas-decked Colmar), covered in cotton wool snow and cuddly polar bears.
The interior however combines old and quirky with slightly faded comfortable. The service has always been good and the rooms are all pretty different and all, judging by the 3 or 4 we must have stayed in, pretty charming (in that mind your head on that diagonal timber beam kind of way the French have).
The breakfasts are pretty good too, as is the restaurant ( if slightly posh for our tastes after the inevitable 8 Hr drive we have just made from London - a couple of Alsace beers and a choucroute always seem more in order). Colmar does get pretty packed over Christmas so you'd be wise to book a restaurant whatever and the Marechal's is an easy way of dealing with that issue.
Parking is not very hard to find ( plenty of little squares off a pretty convoluted one way system) but you may not find something within 200m.
Otherwise wouldn't hesitate to recommend and advise you seem to get better deals by booking from their website direct or ringing them.More
