We do eat here a lot because it's fairly reasonably priced pub grub. The atmosphere is great but the food can vary from bad to good. I would stay away from the specials and stick to what the place does best (pub grub). You can also just go and have a drink and not feel like you should be eating. Always very popular outside in the summer due to location and outside seating. We do like Chef and Brewer as they tend to have a nice feel inside and provided a relaxed environment to eat and drink.
We will go back as we always do, I just wish they could get too some level of consistency with the food.

I visited The Didsbury on a wet and windy lunchtime with four colleagues from work and we felt very welcome. The waitress greeted us immediately and showed us to a table in a characterful old area of the restaurant. It was around 1pm and the place was fairly busy, but the food was quite quick. I had a Gourmet burger, which came in a brioch bun - really tasty. A couple of my colleagues chose from there Game Festival menu, and both were well pleased with there choices. We all enjoyed the food, and liked the atmosphere and the service. The desert menu looked really good, but we were all too full!
I thought the prices were good for what we got, and I would recommend it for a business lunch.

We called here these inn, having booked for 6.30, upon arriving & informing the staff member we had booked, she said,“your table is round the corner, there!" After 15 mins we realised weneededto go to ar and order ourselves, we. Had one menu between 5 of us. We ordered & prepaid only to be told our starter would be 40 mins???
1 hour & 10 mins later our starter appeared, our main courses appeared2 hours after we ordered. Food was mediocre, the fish cakes were bland, tasteless& of cheap quality.
We will not be back, the staff are a sullen lot .

I visited today to celebrate my birthday with friends and my new baby at a time when he would be asleep so the food could be enjoyed. The first disappointment was being sat upstairs in a soulless room that is stuck in the 80's unlike the downstairs which is cosy with real fires. Next the food took ages to arrive and then didn't arrive all together and the baby was now awake. Then a starter of prawns had to be sent back as they were raw, a main of mussels sent back that were so overcooked they fell apart on eating and a burger meal was very poor quality. All the meals, eight in total, were just about warm. Desserts took even longer to arrive.
You need to employ more staff and shut down the upstairs or make it an inviting space to dine.
