A group six of us visited this restaurant,we had all been a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but on this occasion we were left disappointed with the evening. The steaks of OK quality not a patch on our previous visit and the prices on the menus had reached above michelin star prices, for it is steak and chips at the end of the day and the price of the wine does not match the quality.Sorry gaucho's you need to get back to basics
(oh- watch out for the service charge!!!)

A group of us went to this restaurant for a Christmas meal. We each paid £50 for the Sharing menu.

After being initially split up, the organiser of our party managed to get us all sat together in the rear room. Unfortunately, the music was loud which meant we were all shouting to make ourselves heard.

The first course appeared, a Ceviche Sampler. I was expecting a few large plates where we could take a portion each, however we were provided with one plate between two with a small same of each type that then had to be divided by the diners. Quite honestly, this was cheap and shoddy.

This was then followed by an Empanada Sampler. This was basically small Cornish pasties. At least this time it was served on a large platter so that there was one each.

Then there was the main course. Bearing in mind how much Gauchos was putting into promoting their meats’ excellence, I was really looking forward to something special. Regrettably, this was not to be and was a huge disappointment. There were three cuts of meat and each portion was supposed to be 300g. The portions were of such dissimilar sizes that this was impossible. Some of the guests were receiving a third as much meat as the others. Those with the smaller portions should consider themselves lucky. Two of the three portions were so over-cooked as to be borderline burnt whilst the third was rare. Whilst I like rare meat, it would have been nice if it hadn’t had the consistency of boot leather.

Finally, there was the dessert. Again, a plate shared between two, and again each portion had to be divided by the diners. Whilst acceptable, there was nothing special there.

I was expecting coffee at the end of the meal, but none was offered. Very cheap and shoddy.

In summary Gauchos is an expensive restaurant offering a cheap experience, poor quality food and precious little of it. The idea of sharing plates is downright unsanitary. The meat is very poor indeed. I’ve eaten in cheap steak bars that offer better.

On the positive side the service was very good. The waiting staff were cheerful and helpful throughout.

Went for Xmas treat - good service and food. One or two flaws but well worth the visit. Bill for 4 was not as pricey as I was expecting.

Great location with great atmosphere and service inside, offering an unbeatable range of steaks and wines but you will pay top dollar for the privilege of eating in a super restaurant. The mood lighting does make the menus difficult to read so you might miss the section on house wines, the house Malbec was excellent.

We were keen on trying Gaucho after reading all the great reviews, but we were also concerned about the occasional bad reviews, so we went (my wife and I) with a bit of apprehension. The first impression wasn't the best, the place has an unusual decor which although interesting didn't impress us much. The place is kept at a dim lighting, but doesn't make it romantic since the place is huge. Regardless, all that is secondary once the culinary experience begins. First, our server Jane, took her time to explain to us the different cuts of meat. I knew what I wanted, the most tender cut, the Bife de Lomo (Filet). My wife chose the lamb. But first we started with the Ceviche sampler. We are ceviche lovers, and although the sampler had some unusual combinations it didn't disappoint, it was delicious! Then the meats came and there is only one word to describe it, excellent. Specially the Bife de Lomo (ordered raw), I can't recall the last time I had such a tender, juicy and tasteful piece of meat. Extraordinary. The only negative was the chips on the side (as someone else already mentioned) they don't do justice to the meat. But not to worry, Jane noticed that my wife barely touched the side so after enquiring she offered to take them of the bill. We appreciated the gesture. The dessert menu wasn't as appealing to us, but in any case that was not the reason to go there in the first place. We chose the apple pancakes which were nice. All in all a dinner to remember, although on the pricey side.
