Description: The Metropolitan's smart & classic decor reflects the building’s colourful history as a fine Victorian railway hotel. Behind the bar, tall library-style ladders reaching almost to the ceiling rest on a display of fine wines and premium spirits.Treat yourself to an afternoon tea in the relaxing library area with its comfortable armchairs, open fire and well-stacked bookshelves. Ifyou’re dining, take a seat in our elegant conservatory restaurant – light and airy in the daytime and warm and intimate come the evening, it’s the perfect setting to indulge in gorgeous home-cooked cuisine. We serve food all day from breakfast onwards and a there’s a selection of seasonal menus and daily specials to choose from. Our outdoor bar is a wonderful place to enjoy quality drink, fine food and balmy temperatures. You don’t have to wait for a sunny daythough; with its huge outdoor canopy you can dine alfresco whatever theweather.

Treated today by my family for lunch at The Met. We travelled from Newcastle under Lyme so must be good! We had the 3 course lunch - mixture of starters followed by roasts (catch of the day for dad) and dessert . What more can one want ? Food was lovely, and it was good to have the offer of our 4 year old to have his mains while we ate our starters. Service was good, and didn't feel rushed despite the table being reserved 4 times throughout the day.

It seems that ice is in very short supply in didsbury. We asked for an ice bucket for a warm bottle of white wine, and were told 'we only do ice buckets for champagne'. When outrageously we gently persisted and said it would be nice not to have 'mulled Chardonnay', we were begrudgingly given some with lots of shrugging and raised eyebrows. Nice pub, just some miserable staff.

A venue that clearly knows how to alienate customers.
The eaterie prides itself on the 'cake selection' which in our opinion is POOR. When challenged over a bland chocolate cake, the waitress replied 'well its not our fault, its the supplier!
Short n sweet........they are full of their own self importance and trying to be way too trendy instead of focusing on the product.
Three different cakes ordered in a party of 4, 3 disappointed customers.

My wife and I have been here a few times now and it never disappoints. If your ordering food then the Metropolitan Burger is a must. Can get very busy on a Friday and Saturday! so get there early. Great outside space although the heaters for winter need upgrading.

Went with my husband for the champagne afternoon tea (served from 3pm) which was a birthday gift. A good choice of loose leaf teas, and you chose what sandwiches and slice of cake you wanted plus a scone. We opted for smoked salmon and crème fraiche, ham and mustard - these were delicious but we wanted more! (given 8 little triangles) scones with clotted cream and jam (not enough jam for two people) malteaser cake and rose and pistachio cake. We were given a choice of white or rose champagne (a small glass). At just under £15 pp I do think it's pricey but we thoroughly enjoyed it and was very tasty. We sat in the conservatory, good atmosphere and friendly service.
