Description: El Rincón de Rafa is Manchester's longest-serving independent Spanish restaurant, having been in the city centre for 22 years. A family run establishment, El Rincón is regularly described as a 'hidden gem' and offers a relaxed, authentic experience, brought to Manchester from Málaga by owner Rafael Cabrera-Vargas. El Rincón offers a large range of tapas and main courses (including paellas) and a fully stocked bar with a huge variety of Spanish beers (both bottles and draught) and wines. The off the beaten track but central location of El Rincón (close to the Hilton hotel - turn down St John's St from Deansgate and take the first right) ensures an unbeatable authentic Spanish atmosphere, but with hidden nooks and crannies for a more intimate feel. The restaurant doesn't accept bookings for two, seating couples at a number of tables on a first come, first served basis. Customers are also welcome to visit just the bar for food and/or drinks. Que aproveche!

“Great for Quick Meal”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

The ambiance was great, the service quick and friendly, the food was good - portions a good size bigger than "normal" Tapas. The Paella was specially cooked - so about a 30min wait - if in a hurry stick to the Tapas - the staff will tell you which are quick

“Authentic Spanish tapas”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

After reading several reviews giving negative feedback we were very pleasantly surprised .
Yes it's an old basement building with decor to match , this only adds to the brilliant atmosphere , making it feel like a true Sevillian tapas bar .
The main reason for going out for us is good food , and we have not had better tapas in this country . It took us back to Seville with brilliant staff to match .
Yes the food came out at different times as it does when it is freshly prepared , but was hot and well worth the wait, plus if it all came out at once it would go cold and would not be the true meaning of tapas .
Well worth a visit if you want a traditional Spanish night out , and very different to the mould .

“Missed expectations”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

My partner and I visited this restaurant on 30 December after a matinee concert at the Bridgewater Hall. The last time we had dined there was 2 years ago and we were so favourably impressed that we made a point of returning there after the concert. It was such a mistake. We ordered tapas, one of which was Gambas pil-pil, which we love and they came after a long wait - 4 prawns in a tomatoey sauce, with one bit of red chili and 2 bits of garlic. We tasted a prawn but this only confirmed what we suspected... no flavour, no olive oil, what did the cook dream up? We sent this dish back and were promised a traditional version but it never arrived. We ate the other tapas which were adequate in flavour but served lukewarm. What a disappointment!

“Wow!”

A well kept secret in Manchester. In a basement I was taken there by my brother in law and what a fab place to eat. We had a selection of tapas. The salt fish was excellent

“Back On Form”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

We went when it was quiet and fell in love again (with the food). Loads of specials this time including the scrambled eggy black pudding dish. Service was great, beer was cold. I just love this little bit of Galicia in a Mancunian basement.
