Description: Set in the hub of Manchester's King Street West, this brand-new concept restaurant is the feather in the cap of the San Carlo group's award-winning chain of Italian restaurants. A departure from the regular San Carlo formula, the dining room boasts an open, light and airy all-white space with red accents, and a stylish bar and lounge area perfect for pre/post dinner drinks. The menu is an lavish celebration of traditional seafood-led Italian cuisine, and favourite dishes include the Scallops San Carlo; Tagliatelle Monte Carlo – pasta served with sautéed shallots and diced monkfish in a creamy tomato and white wine sauce; and the traditional spiced Italian sausages cooked with Borlotti beans.

Great bustling atmosphere, but intimate enough to have a discussion without shouting!. Good choice of food and wine, seafood featuring highly. Excellent choice of wine and the desserts were amazing! Priced very reasonably for the level of slick service and quality of food. I would recommend the restaurant for all of the mentioned but feel the only thing lacking to get a full 5 from me would have been the lack of seating space we had on our table, slightly squashed in but didn't distract from everything else. Place I look forward to returning to in the future.

We went for a meal Sat 7th September for a friends 40th Birthday. Food was fantastic don't be put off by the price of the special fish platter, it's about £25 my mates ordered it and I didn't, BIG mistake it looked and they said it tasted fantastic. My wife had fillet Rossini which she said was beautiful. Service was very good even though restaurant was packed. We booked some time ago in one of the circular booths which was a lovely place to sit eat and people watch.
Definitely recommend this restaurant we will be going back again. For six of us with a bottle of Proseco and 2/3 rounds of beers it was just under £300 inc tip.

Lets be clear up front, this place is famous for being famous! I can only imagine that somebody in football was ,ages with the owner and its gone from there! Famous people make places famous.

However, that's not to say this place is bad - far from it. The food is good - not brill - but good. Antipasti was a bit average but have been a couple of times recently and everything else food wise has been good. Arrabiatta, steaks, pizza for the kids etc are all very good.

In addition there is the atmosphere - it is buzzing - exactly what I like! The place just buzzes with contentment! Good wine and beer are obviously a help.

Service is unfortunately average - but I almost think this is ow part of the appeal! Don't expect to be whisked to a able when you arrive - you will probably need to ask the front desk half a dozen times, especially at the main sitting on a Saturday! Table service is also not that brill but will do.

Definitely give it a go if you like good Italian with a buzzing atmosphere!

What a wonderful experience we had at San Carlo last night. The vibrant, bustling atmosphere of San Carlo in Manchester is pound for pound the best in any Manchester restaurant, perfect for a table of six friends celebrating a 40th birthday, but probably a bit high energy if your looking for a romantic meal for two. We started off at the bar with a few Peroni's and a bottle of Prosecco for the ladies, all chilled to perfection and served quickly in lovely clean glasswear. Upon being called to our table we were sighted at in the far corner of the room, and served the biggest, juciest and possibly tastiest olives I've ever seen. Our order was taken just a few minutes later, we weren't rushed, it was just very efficient service. There was a great selection of food available on both the main menu and the specials menu. The starters we had included a sharing plate of shell fish for two (Beautifully cooked and presented), Garlic mushrooms in a crispy filo pastry basket (Juicy mushrooms, fried to perfection in a heady garlic dressing) and two of us had the chicken livers which were soft, slightly pink and wonderfully sweet with a lovely sauce. For main courses, 4 of us selected fillet steaks cooked in dolcelatte sauce, green peppercorn sauce and rossini sauce, all of which were beautifully sauced and the steaks themselves being cooked perfectly and generously portioned. Slight critisism is that the steaks could have been rested for a minute or two longer , but that was fairly minor. Our vegetarian guest had pizza which was exceptional and very authentic and our final guest selected the penne pasta in a rich tomato sauce with chicken which was fabulous. We washed this all down with a couple of bottles of slightly overpriced, but good quality red wine. The wine list is priced highly as are all drinks, but that's fairly common in good restaurants nowadays so wasn't suprising. Onto deserts, panacotta, tiramassu and creme brulee were all excellent whilst we boys selected strong espresso coffees and Hine Antique cognac's (£11.50 a shot being typical for a cognac of such high quality) When the bill came it included a 10% service charge which for a table of 6 is standard fare, but overall a £380 bill for 6 people was great value for money owing to the high level of service and exceptional quality of the meal itself and of course we had 2 bottles of good quality red and a bottle of prosecco within that too. Overall, it was a great evening and I'll be rushing back to San Carlo the next time I'm looking for a meal in lively surroundings.

We have eaten here quite a few times before so it was an easy decision to eat here again. But,
although the starters were good, our mains of spicy pasta were definitely a let down. We felt that the pasta had been cooked and left waiting for us to finish our starters, so it arrived at our table a bit hard in places and the pasta tubes were 'fused' in 'clumps' together. On reflection should really have complained. Also, when we paid the bill after waiting for a while, no change was brought to us for us to consider what tip we should leave. Because of our impending train departure time we just had to leave the restaurant without leaving the tip of our choice.
