“So good lost for words! this is a food heaven journey”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

As with others we have enjoyed the food journey of L'Enclume and were so happy to hear Simon Rogan and his team of excellent chefs and front of house was coming to Manchester.

The old fusty French has gone to be replaced with an excellent decor, spacious dining tables and seating. The food had lost nothing on being transported. His menu as always is exciting, amazing and pushing boundaries with perfect execution. We had a sublime time, thank you.

“Beyond Fine Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

We have been to L'Enclume several times so we were excited to hear Simon Rogan taking over The French, we decided on the 10 course taster menu with an additional cheese course. Perfection on a plate, this is not fine dining, this goes way beyond that, beetroot, goats cheese mousse with salted hazelnuts and apple marigold, razor clams, truffle dumplings, ox in coal oil, asparagus with crevettes with duck skin, late spring offerings, vegetables, herbs and flowers, chicken with buckwheat, sea beet and smoked roe butter, guinea hen with Russian kale, then two desserts, one with rhubarb and toasted oats and the other being pear with meadowsweet, buttermilk and linseeds. Everything was simply superb. A wonderful dining experience.
Exceptional service as you would expect from a Simon Rogan establishment.

“Food to die for!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2013

Have really wanted to eat at L'Enclume for some time now but have never got round to it, however, when I found out that Simon Rogan had taken over the French at the Midland, which is local to me, I booked immediately. Myself and a friend went for the 3 course taster lunch menu on Saturday 15th June, as a belated birthday treat and we were not disappointed.. The food was absolutely heavenly and although we only paid for the 3 course menu, we did get another 3 taster courses/amuse bouche aswell so still felt like we had the 6 courses. The staff were friendly and attentive and had a good knowledge of the ingredients and the ambience was good. Overall it was a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours and will definitely be returning, asap.

“At last: A great Manchester restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

We have been to L`Enclume a few times, and always had a great time, so we were really delighted when we heard that Simon Rogan was taking over The French in Manchester, particularly as the city centre has not had a consistently excellent restaurant since the late lamented Mash and Air. The French did not disappoint, and the staff have done a great job in transposing the focus and friendly professionalism of L`Enclume into what could be a somewhat over-formal if not pretentious posh hotel setting. We went for the 10 course menu, and in future I would go for the smaller one, if just to avoid the inevitable "how many more courses can I manage?" anxiety. And also in order to not put such a demand on my recall, as all the courses made you want to take a gustatory "photo" in order not to forget the flavours. Sadly my memory packed in by the forth course so all I could do was sit back and enjoy the ride and the superb staff added to that enjoyment.

“Simon Rogan brings his exquisite culinary expertise to Manchester city centre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013 via mobile

Finally a restaurant to truly rave about in the city centre! For too long I have had to travel further afield for Michelin star quality dining with service to match. Michael Caine's Abode has been trying to do it but failing in a number of ways. His staff should visit The French to see how it should be done. My husband and I had the 10 course tasting menu with matching wine for our wedding anniversary. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left this was a joyous experience. The restaurant itself it classy, understated and cosy. Some of the staff are quite young but all knew their stuff and were very attentive. The food was spectacular, particularly the ox in coal oil. Go hungry, go prepared to spend some serious cash but with the knowledge you will leave having had a truly wonderful experience.
