“Good stay shame about the credit card fee”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2014

A good quality, expensive hotel, well located and well run. Beware they charge extra for everything including a credit card charge - don't see this very often especially in non budget hotels.
Breakfast was really good but beer selection in the bar very limited. Rooms were well appointed and comfortable.

Room Tip: Car parking = £20 / day. Credit card fees applied to the bill.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for taking the time to review us and for all your comments please be assured that where we see an opportunity to improve we will do so. With regard to a charge for the use of credit cards from my experience in both retail and hotels it is pretty much standard these days given that they are used less than other types of cards and of course cash.

I hope that this didn't detract too much from your stay and that you will be back with us soon.

Kind regards

Stayed here for one night only. The hotel staff were very welcoming and couldnt do enough for us.
The room was lovely and clean and huge !! My only criticism is the prices at the hotel bar which i thought were quite pricey. I would stay here again.

Stayed for one night on Friday. From arrival to departure staff were excellent and ensured we were happy with service. Had intended to check in then have a wander into city centre for a snack and a look around but it started to rain ate in lounge and then spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying some red wine! The lounge staff were excellent and really friendly.
We had a room on the top floor with views out over they city centre . The bed was really comfy and the bathroom was huge with separate shower and bath and low level lighting if u needed the loo during the night! Plus there were speakers in the bathroom so you could listen to the TV whilst having a bath or shower!
We ate in the Scottish steak club in the evening. Both had steaks and I have to admit I am really fussy about my steaks - they have to be Scottish - and i rarely find they are cooked the way I like them. But they were Scottish and both of ours were cooked to perfection! The waiting staff were excellent and made no attempt to rush us! They even went out of their way to get us something not on the menu! We had breakfast again here the next morning which was buffet style but again staff were happy to get anything else you wanted and coffee pot topped up as often as we wanted. Perhaps the food at breakfast could have been hotter but this isn't anything unusual ur a buffet.
Yes you had to pay £20 for the car park but it is worth it knowing your car is in a secure place and we were invited to leave car there for rest of day even after checking out.
Would definitely stay here again if visiting Manchester as easy to get to and only 10 minute walk from city centre. And in would recommend to anyone visiting Manchester.

Room spacious and modern, great bathroom. Hotel a bit soulless, feels like a business place. Bar and restaurant uninspiring no matter as Manchester is on the doorstep Breakfast expensive at £19. Objected to the £3 surcharge for paying by cc.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

Myself and my mum booked into the hotel and spa on a special offer which included bed, breakfast and spa treatments. On arrival to the hotel we asked could we put our luggage into the luggage store so that we could go to the spa and spend some time there and have our treatments.
When we arrived at the spa, we were told our treatments were half an hour later than we had booked, but that we could go and use the thermal suite - which wasn't an issue. We changed and went to the thermal suite, which was a complete disappointment - nothing was working. We returned to the main spa area to go to the relaxation room to wait for our treatments, we were told there was herbal teas and water and to help ourselves - we had to ask for hot water to make tea as none had been put out.
Our treatments were a elemis facial and lime and ginger body scrub. It felt like the therapist who did my facial was in a rush, I did not enjoy it at all, she had no finesse and was very heavy handed. On discussing our treatments, my mum felt that her therapist was the same - and turns out that our treatments were also slightly different.
We returned to the thermal suite after our treatments - the steam room was slightly warm, but had little steam, the sauna was not particularly hot, and there were only two thermal loungers, right by the entrance - left you feeling very 'on show'. So we left. We also assumed that a spa would include a pool and/or Jacuzzi, which it didn't. I have never visited a spa without these before, I found it very odd.
We went back over to the hotel, to check in - we were greeted by friendly staff who checked us into a superior double double room - which was a nice extra.
The room was massive, two lovely big double beds, large bathroom with shower cubicle and bath - and all the added extras you would expect from a 4* hotel.
We had to get a taxi from the hotel into the city centre, but I would imagine you would be able to walk if you know Manchester, probably a good 10-15 minute walk into the centre - but as we didn't have a clue we felt it would be easier to get a taxi.
Breakfast was great, lots of choice and staff happy to help with anything you couldn't find or wasn't available.
Overall a very mixed review, I don't think I would visit this hotel again - would probably chose somewhere closer to the centre if I was visiting Manchester - although I could not find fault in the hotel itself, I just think it is slightly too far from the main attractions of the city.
I would not waste my money on visiting the 'spa' again, and I would highly recommend anybody else looking for a spa experience in Manchester to look elsewhere before booking here.

Stayed on a Sunday night as we were attending a concert at the nearby O2 Apollo. we arrived and quickly checked in and given a wonderful executive city view room on the top floor of the hotel. the room was a good size with a king size bed, large flat screen tv and an excellent bathroom suite. we ate in the hotel bar having recieved £10 room credit upon check in. both the food and the drink were excellent. we enjoyed a very peaceful nights sleep and have to say this is one of the best city centre hotels we have stayed in for a long time. All in all for the price we paid £90 this represented excellent value and would would reccomend this hotel to anyone needing to stay in Manchester city centre.
