“Great place”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

What a great place my wife and I spent a romantic spa break here. Great value or money we did not leave the hotel. We had a evening meal in the steak house which was brilliant the service was absolutely great staff we great also. My wife went veg and had the mushroom paste and I had the fillet steak with a blue cheese sauce from start to finish was absolutely great. The next morning my wife had her spa treatments which she loved while I spent some time chilling in the thermal suites which were great only down side no jacuzzi but can't have it all staff were great in the spa also. The finishing touches by the staff were great. Cannot forgot the rooms absolutely great full size bath separate shower nice king size bed only down side was the tv in the room is way to small!! Only pro I could find. Breakfast is a must here a great selection teas and coffees everything you could ask for and the chef can creat whatever egg style you require and for £2.50 extra you can have salmon eggs Benedict or a few other things which is good value also. All in all a great place my wife and I will be back in the future

Great hotel, central location with lovely large room and excellent breakfast with friendly staff in restaurant and reception. However, housekeeping only replaced half the number of towels when there were clearly two people staying in the room (two cases!). No answer from reception when I tried to call and long queues to be dealt with. Need to have all four points on the reception desk staffed mornings (3 staff) and evenings (1 staff) when hotel very busy/full.

Dear Mike,

Many thanks for taking the time to review us your feedback is much appreciated. I have asked via a message to you for some further detail about your stay so that we can review it and so improve. There are always two sets of towels in each room as a standard; one set in the bathroom and the other in the cupboard. Again your kind reply will help highlight whether there was a shortfall

Many thanks once again and we look forward to your return.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night as we had tickets for a show at the Apollo. This hotel is walking distance to the Apollo & we have stayed here before. We are a married couple in our 30's.

As previously, the hotel reception, check in & room were all faultless.

We unfortunately made the mistake of ordering food from the bar before going to the show. I ordered ribeye steak (£19) & my husband ordered chicken curry (£14). We waited 40 mins before the food turned up (no-one else was eating at the bar) & both meals were both cold. We returned them telling the waiter they were cold & a couple sat next to us said theirs had been cold the previous night. We waited a further 15 minutes & the meals were returned, my husbands curry was hot but my £19 ribeye steak with roughy 10 chunky chips was still cold. The bernaise sauce was so cold the butter had solidified. Also disappointing was the cut of meat which I thought was terrible - I've had better in Weatherspoons for less than half the price.

A really disappointing meal that would put me off staying here again. Most disappointedly was the staff reluctance to do anything as they knew we were still unhappy but had no choice but to go due to the concert. They just awkwardly avoided us until we left.

Hotel is a 5 star, but the bar food a zero.

Dear Jo and Peter,

Many thanks for the comments about where you felt we did well they are appreciated. I'm probably more disappointed than you in that you felt we failed to match your expectations with Dinner as normally we get great feedback about that part of our offering. Please be assured that already I have asked for a reply from the team and an immediate improvement so we are back to our usual high standards.

As loyal guests I'd like to know when next you are planning to return so that I can ensure personally that we deliver all that we do to our usual standard.

Thank you once again

Overall this hotel was fantastic! We stayed here ( me and my partner) on a friday night, fantastic location, walking distance to Manchester apollo and the town center.

Reception were very helpful on both checking in and checking out!

Our room was fantastic, we booked a superior room which was brilliant and lots of room, no complaints at all!

The only complaint we have, which is a very small one, is that there were no road signs to find the car park to the hotel, we had to look at google maps on our phones to find it! which resulted in us driving round manchester until we found it, due to one way systems! £17.50 for overnight parking was a little steep too.

Thank you again for our lovely stay!

x

Room Tip: We stayed in a room on the 5th floor, brilliant views!

Dear Gail,

Many thanks for your kind comments they are appreciated and so pleased that we managed to look after you. I'll look into ensuring that our Sat Nav Postcode is more prominent on our website although like every city centre hotel we are impacted by one way systems.

Our car park as you know is literally next door to the hotel so perfectly placed and we offer a single charge as we know guests like to arrive early / stay late and so our pricing reflects this. Having assessed our charges as against the city centre generally we are almost certainly less expensive overall and we have the added value of being completely secure with CCTV coverage 24/7.

Many thanks once again and we look forward to your return sometime soon.

Kind regards

I booked an executive double double for myself and three friends. Including breakfast (which is the best I've had in a hotel for a long time) it worked out at only £37 each for a Friday night-brilliant value. Room was huge as was the bathroom and all was spotlessly clean. Staff were extremely polite and attentive. Only downside was that we weren't able to access the room until 3pm which seems later than other hotels. Was also a bit unclear on website whether hotel included a pool (which it doesn't) but does have lovely steam rooms etc. We had a wedding to go to but we were able to use the spa facilities in the basement to get ready in. Only 5 mins from Piccadilly station, would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose an executive double double if staying with friends/family. Nb have rated the 'swimming p...

Thanks so much for taking the time to review us and for all your kind comments. As usual where you have identified an opportunity to improve please be assured that we are already onto matters.

Stayed here for the second time, on business and glad I didn't have to pay for it! No huge issues, bathroom and also bathroom stank of bleach upon entry but the room was clean. Used the spa which was fine but it's only a thermal suite, no jacuzzi and it smelt really really horrible. However, seemed to be quite clean etc!

No plus next to the bedside tables, chest of drawers handles a bit battered and broken and there were no plugs next to mirrors either for hair styling!

Staff at breakfast were horrific. First lady we spoke to was polite, but everyone seemed confused and orders were behind. A real rip off at £16 additional!!!

I'd avoid it, I won't be going back but it isn't horrific and does the job.

Dear fholmes,

Many thanks for taking the time to review us although I have asked via a message to you as to whether you are a competitor as your comments are a little out of kilter with the rest of our feedback alongside your hot tub party experience in a previous review I'm not so sure that this is a serious review.

That said we'll continue to work towards delivering 'great and nothing less' consistently rather than 'fine but nothing more' so please be assured where we can see the opportunity to improve within your review you've also provided the motivation (less the hot tub).

Kind regards

We stayed here for 1 night dinner, bed and breakfast and had a lovely time it's just across the road from Piccadilly train station and a short 10min walk into manchester town centre. We arrived at 4 check in was easy staff were polite and friendly engaging in conversation with you. We stayed in a city view room which was lovely and spacious, mini bar was full but didn't use, iron, ironing board and hairdryer for your use and a lovely large comfy bed and the bathroom was spacious with a bath and a seperate shower. We had dinner in the Scottish steak club as we payed dinner bed and breakfast they was a seperate menu to choice from with a 2 course or a 3 course dinner some stuff you have to pay extra on on it or you could choice something off the main menu but not sure how that worked so went for the 3 course dinner lovely food staff was lovely and polite and so friendly you could watch the chef preparing all the food which was good. I would say drinks are expensive so prepare for that extra to pay. Breakfast was self serve lovely food again. We had a great time and would definitely stay again
