“Value for Money Manchester Hotel”
Reviewed May 5, 2009

This hotel deserves to be at the top of the reviews. It is a little walk to the main shopping areas but well worth the walk considering the price paid (£59 bed and breakfast).
The staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and have everything you will need, tea and coffee facilities, iron, hairdryer, fridge/bar. The added bonus is the iMac and free internet. The breakfast was fabulous and far exceeded breakfasts in other (higher rated) hotels such as The Midland, Hilton. Yes, the rooms are fairly basic but when you are only spending minimal times in the room it doesnt really matter. Also the views are not really up to much but unless you are staying in a high floor at the Hilton, there are not really spectacular views anywhere in the City.
I would definately use this hotel again and would certainly reccommend it.

I stayed at the City Inn on my stag weekend and it was faultless! We were an eclectic crowd to say the least but absolutley everyone agreed that the hotel was amazing for the price. We were paying about £35 each for a twin room per night including breakfast. For the price, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Yes you can get better and plusher but not at this prce.

The rooms are brand new, clean, ultra modern. The bar is open late and very welcoming (staff in general are extremely good) and the food is outstanding (again considering the price). Try a late night burger and you'll not be disappointed; breakfast is exceptional.

It's clearly a business hotel but that means great rates on a weekend. I love Malmaison hotels (it's next door) bu tmy advice would be to forego the soft furnishings and take advantage of one of the bargains of the year if you can stay here for less than £100 a room.

the first choice hotel went bankrupt so we booked the City Inn as our emergency option ... with some trepidation because its a chain, but it turned out to be great! we booked a suite, and it had a very nice seating area big enough for 4, a table, a separate bedroom and a very nice bathroom ... the internet worked with none of the usual hassles ... and a very good view ... completely quiet too, which was good because the hotel is literally three minutes from the station and very convenient for everything else ... everything was spotless, it all worked like clockwork, the staff were absolutely great ... but the biggest surprise was the restaurant - breakfast was excellent, with full english, all the croissants etc but also really good and interesting things very well cooked (kedgeree was brilliant) ... and dinner was better - £20 for three courses and absolutely top notch ... I have to say, much to my surprise, this is an absolutely great hotel and highly recommended

This hotel was very impressive. It feels newly built, and everything was very smart and fresh. The breakfast was excellent (inclusive in our £59 rate for a double room), and they even gave us a free upgrade to a larger room.

It's within walking distance of Picadilly station, but not so close that you can see or hear it.

If you are arriving by car, park at the local NCP (just behind the hotel) and there is a discount when the hotel stamps the ticket.

Some travelling companions weren't hugely impressed by the quality of the rose wine and my cider in the bar was £5 a bottle, but given the room had a complimentary bottle of wine and chocolates, it would be churlish to carp over those points.

Overall, an excellent stay, and happy to strongly recommend this hotel.

This is not the cheapest hotel by any means (though rates may have been higher as Manchester was very busy due to the football) but I was pretty impressed by the City Inn. The staff were helpful and friendly, nice clean room, good breakfast - ticked all of the boxes!
The in room imac entertainment system was nice but might baffle the more technically challenged. I would be happy to stay here again.

I cant really say any more about this hotel, from the minute we checked in to the minute we left we were looked after by the superb staff, nothing was to much trouble for them,The location was great for us as we were going to the appollo, which was only half a mile away down the road. The price we paid was only £59 for the night, this included a full english breakfast,We were also allowed to check out late at no extra cost,I would certainly use this Hotel chain again.

I stayed at the City Inn over the April Bank Holiday weekend with my girlfriend. It only cost £59 per night which was amazing value considering it was a Bank Holiday.

The location is absolutely fantastic for the Gay Village and Piccadilly Station. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Arndale Shopping Centre and about a 20 minute walk to the bars of the Northern Quarter.

Considering they must have a lot of gay couples due to the location, we were a bit surprised to find that they still have us the same mildly shocked look that most hotels give us when they realise that yes, we are two girls, and yes, we will be sleeping in the same bed.

The service was professional - they checked us in early and out late with no fuss. They also held our bags while we had lunch before catching our train home. Upon arrival, they gave us the option of a smoking room, which I was a bit over-joyed with! Also, they replied promptly to an email enquiry that I made before arrival, which I was impressed with.

The room itself was very clean and bright. It was more spacious than expected and had an iMac with radio and TV stations plus free internet. The rooms are very bland though and they do remind me a bit of nice student halls with all that light wood! I wouldn't want to pay over £60 for the rooms, as they are missing a certain wow factor. The bathroom was gorgeous though.

For £59 per night, I would definitely stay in this hotel again. For more than that, I would expect more personal service. The staff were just charmless. I stayed in a Malmaison in Birmingham for about £70 and the rooms were stunning and intimate. The staff were very professional, curteous and friendly. The staff at the City Inn were completely unmemorable and whilst they were not rude, they were not overly welcoming.

Overall, if you're planning a night out in the Village, this is a great place to stay if the price is right. If you have a higher budget, check out the nearby Malmaison or newly opened Velvet hotel.
