“Great value for money”
Reviewed February 20, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed here for three days in February 2013. I was in Manchester for a business trip. The staff are friendly and provide a warm welcome upon arrival. We stayed in the standard room and it was good value for money. We liked that we could open the window as it gets a bit stuffy in winter. The room was clean and comfortable enough for a few nights. We stayed on the sixth floor which had a view of the city.

We had a few annoying issues with the room service orders. However upon checkout I explained these issues and the manger was very apologetic and friendly, he even offered us a free lunch. The staff working in the hotels cafe/restaurant/bar are nice and very attentive.

The location is great, especially if you are catching a train as Piccadilly station is just down the road.

Even though there were a few hiccups they were all sorted in the end and we will definitely return when visiting manchester again.

the doubletree hotel itself is lovely- check in was friendly and the accommodated us with an early check in which was greatly appreciated. the staff had even arranged for a birthday card for hubby which was a lovely touch. we couldnt fault the room, clean, tidy and everything ud want- imac a definite plus as is the free wifi. the only negative of our stay was when we decided to dine in the restaurant on the sunday night of our stay, restaurant was quiet enough a few other tables, nothing major. starters came swifty enough and that was where it started going downhill, our plates remained on the table for a long time, infact our mains arrived and our plates where still on the table, i knwo its a small gripe but when ur paying above average for a meal i expect decent service. after dinner waited for plates to be lifted and asked for bill, after 10-15mins still no bill, getting annoyed at this stage, asked same waitress for bill again and she got it, no sorry i forgot or anything. as we left a general manager ( i think) appeared and he did ask if everything was ok, i was mad at this stage and bit my tongue and walked on. the food was lovely it was just that the service really put a damper on it.
would we return to the hotel- definitely but i very much doubt we'd make use of the restaurant again. we did fill in a comment card and thought hotel might have got back to me regarding it but as of yet ive not heard from them. overall great hotel, good location but i wouldnt advise dining in the restaurant.

Very pleased with this hotel. Check in was friendly and swift and the food and service in the bar was great. Breakfast fresh and again with good service.

One review said Ikea rooms, well not too far off mark but I liked the modern feel and not many hotels have an Apple TV and pc at your disposal.

First double tree stay and certainly won't be the last.

Travelling in by plane then train from airport this was in a perfect location adjacent to Picadilly Station, and as visiting a number of venues around the city a good spot to get trams, busses and taxis.

Made the mistake of arranging a visit to Manchester when there were a lot of events on which bumped up most hotel prices well into the 3 figures, but the Hilton Sale has this at about £90 B&B a night, more than a corporate rate but aligned to the prices the budget hotels were offerring and less than mainstay hotels.

Should have guessed something dodgy on arrival, Hilton had done their pre-offfer upgrade for a price, took the £75/night suite offer. At 5.30pm after 3 hours of travel - no room available as they'd allowed a late check out for the previous guest and room was being cleaned. Not ideal as due to meet friends at 7pm but no other rooms available as hotel full. We were given a voucher for a drink in the bar and would be 30 mins. Ordered drinks, then bar staff barked - singles and chespest house brands only allowed with this voucher - wow!

Suite looked pleasant enough - view OK if looked one way, otherwise looking at a wall, with a function room above, which later turned to be a disco till 2am... Good night out, returned and so to bed, was promised not long till music stopped, so was prepared to be lulled into sleep by cheesy muic and sight of worse dancing reflected in window, untill music stopped and realised how loud the lifts were - yes headboard against lift shaft - when they weren't moving you anticipated the noise of the next move. 3 lifts lots of chains. Bad night sleep. Could easily be solved by the room being reconfigured.

Complained in morning and whilst initially no solution, reception agreed to move us to another room when I suggested we could move to another hotel / happy to downgrade. Had to check out and in again and next room available mid afternoon. What a difference - overlooked Picadilly and whilst there was limited street noise, this was much less distrurbing than lifts and disco.

The suites are small rooms for a suite and as such lose a proper desk and furniture is more functional than comfortable - but big windows and views, and great bathroom make up for. Second night great night sleep.

Breakfast good, thankfully started early, well stocked tasty and hot. Staff a bit mixed in enthusiasm - the great ones stood out. Porridge very good.

The hotel had missed a number of opportunities to make good for the issues that we had. The reception staff were all pleasant and did help within the constraints of the hotel but met promises made. However no acknowledgement was made that we had the issues of no room availability, and no sleep for a night - a simple apology, bottle of wine in the second room, some small token would have made a difference that would have shown guests issues were acknowledged and respected, and made amends. As a result, the opportunity to turn a complainant to a promoter was missed.

Check out would have been functional - but I did take the chance to mention my issues and after a bit of fuss we "negotiated" a reduction of £75 off the £330 odd bill, from the £50 initially grudgingly offered. Had the hotel being more proactive I would have rated 4*, instead I would rate 2* for the first room, 4* for second. Rated 3* as the hotel did rise to the challenge and succeed in returning a coat I'd left behind.

Would I stay again - doubt it - there are lots of options in Manchester now and I think I would like to try a few other hotels prior to next visit. But does score on functionality, location and food so 50/50.

Room Tip: Select high floor, end of corridor rooms for quieter night.

My boyfriend and I stayed here on Valentine's Day (We came to see the Lion King). We have stayed at a Hilton before, but this one hands-down is one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in.

Check-in was efficient and smooth. The room was spacious, and I liked that we could control our own temperature and fan speed. (Must come back in the summer to take advantage of the air conditioning) The room was very well-equipped, the complimentary bottled water was a nice touch, and this hotel is great as a base because it's got a mini fridge in the room. The imac is a great asset, it's a fully functional computer, as well as TV. FREE WIFI is provided throughout the hotel and it's a very high-speed. This alone will make me pick this over other hotels.

A bonus is that Hilton has a leave luggage service - they will keep your luggages for you prior to check-in and after checking out. This is really really handy for us. We were surprised that they would watch our luggages for us, even after we have checked out. It saved us £20 (fees that we would pay to leave luggages at the train station)!

The staff were very polite and we were greeted everywhere we go in the hotel. The breakfast is also recommended.

I would come back in a heartbeat. You can't go wrong with this hotel.

For an overnight stay travelling from Essex, this hotel offered a very pleasant and welcome stay. The location is great being a short 2 min walk from Manchester Piccadilly Station and approx 5-10 mins from the Trafford Centre. We were greeted by friendly check-in staff and even better with 2 warm chocolate cookies. The room was well very clean, modern and well equipped. Everything worked too which going by past experience with other hotels this deserves a mention in itself. Breakfast was tasty too with a great choice. Overall a great one night stay and good value for money. We would definitely recommend and will certainly stay again should the need arise.
