“good value, great location”

if you're arriving by train into manchester this could be closer, except no train noise! The hotel is v.modern so air con works, everything seems quite new still. only a few mins walk into the absolute centre and a safe walk back late at night. i stayed 3 nights & thoroughly enjoyed manchester (again!) & this hotel was a great choice. 1 small downside, no baths, only showers although they are great showers!

Just completed a 9-night stay at this hotel, and was totally impressed from beginning to end. I had contacted Jack Appleton at the hotel prior to our stay, and he proved to be extremely helpful.

Check-in was very efficient, and with my Hilton HHonors status we were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a suite on the 10th floor.

We were helped to our room by one of the Concierge team (Milo, a star throughout our stay), who then took the team to explain and demonstrate the Apple Mac TV/Computer system, the A/C, and the complimentary “mini bar” (it was a mini-fridge, which was replenished each day free of charge with beer, wine, Coke, snacks).

I used the gym each day of our stay, and although small it was perfectly good for an early-morning wake-up workout.

The Piccadilly Lounge was a very pleasant place to sit in the evening, and enjoy drinks or food – I found the prices to be very reasonable for both (but I stay in a lot of hotels – obviously Wetherspoons etc. will prove much cheaper, and there are several of these around the city centre), and Alex mixes a mean Long Island Iced Tea !

Room service was also very good, and in particular the breakfast Room Service was fantastic. We were served most mornings by the same young lady, who was exceptionally friendly and attentive throughout our stay.

To be honest, all of the staff that we came into contact with were very good indeed -- all seemed genuinely interested to know how we were, and if we were enjoying our stay, or if anything further could be done to help; I look forward to returning here for all future trips to Manchester.

The hotel is very well-located for Piccadilly Railway Station, and also for the main shopping area – 5 mins will get you along to Debenhams or Primark, and a couple of minutes further down gets you to the Arndale Centre, which has more shops than anybody should need !

So, in summary --- great staff, great food, great drink, great location. A winner !

Room Tip: High rooms are obviously further from the noise of the city below !

Rooms are simple, clean and modern. However, we'd arrived in Manchester after a very, very long flight only to get out from the car and found that we had to lug our heavy bags in by ourselves with no offer of help whatsoever from the front desk or a bellman of sorts. We could see the staff at the front desk just staring at us, watching us struggle with our bags. Perhaps this is not a 5 star hotel - no idea why not. Previous DoubleTrees I have stayed in, in different countries, have had much more helpful staff with someone definitely coming out to help you with your bags. The fact that the standards are different just made me quite surprised.

The plus points are the yummy cookie (!!) and that the prices are reasonable, while the rooms give you everything you need. An iMac doubles as both a TV/Computer/Music playing device and I thought this was ingenious and an idea that every hotel should follow! The shower was brilliant and powerful, though the room had a very basic feel to it. Desk was chipped away at some edges, the cupboard was short felt like it was from Ikea (which is alright, but not what I expected) while the view out of my window was of this decrepit building that made me laugh. There was not much else in the room, which was quite small as well.

The breakfast was disappointing: some examples being that in the buffet section, milk was lukewarm and the cereals a bit soft when they should have been crunchy. Location-wise, the hotel is quite good while there was an excellent waiter in the Piccadilly Lounge (an engineer by degree) who was so so so nice in helping us get to where we wanted to go. The Blue Bar also has some excellent drinks despite being tiny.

I would recommend this hotel for a short stay, but the lack of help with our bags we experienced upon arriving our hotel seriously left a bad impression on me, especially after staying in many DoubleTrees throughout the world who had far better front desk service and were much better at making us feel welcome.

Room Tip: Get one facing away from the decrepit building!

Dear Claire H,

Thank you for taking your time to share your feedback with Tripadvisor.

It is great to read that you enjoyed your stay and would return to the hotel however I was disappointed to learn your breakfast experience was substandard and the usual, attentive and efficient service our Front Desk Teams offer was not offered when you checked in.

Please contact me directly when you are next visiting Manchester, it would be my pleasure to assist with accommodation arrangements, Jack.Appleton@hilton.com.

Best wishes,

Jack

First time at Hilton doubletree Manchester, have stayed in Hilton Deansgate previously and was ready to can all future Hilton stays. Thank goodness for this one, warm welcome, great staff and the Deputy Manager was visible and supportive to his team. Had a great meal in the City Cafe, where again the staff were exemplary. Cannot recommend highly enough. Note for Hilton Deansgate - this is how a Hilton should be experienced!!

Stayed here for 3nights, enjoyed my stay, room was good size, clean. On arrival got a complimentary cookie. Used the hotels car park at a cost of £15per day. Hotel is located in city centre and a minute away from picadally station. Would recommend this hotel for short stay.

I stayed there even when it was the Mint Hotel. It is still the same and great location to stay and explore Manchester. The rooms are comfortable and offer all the necessary accessories. The bar offers a great view and nice drinks. Defenitely a place to recommend to stay.
