“Convenient location for central Manchester”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2014

We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a conference in the central Manchester area.
The hotel is well located for easy access to conference, restaurants and shops.
The hotel has its own car park although it can get full with an overflow to the nearby NCP.
We didn't reserve a space but at busy times it might be sensible to book when making a reservation.(car parking is chargeable)
The check in staff were excellent and throughout our stay all the staff we encountered we're friendly and efficient.
The breakfast was excellent with plenty of space and with a good selection of options.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the updated/decorated rooms overlooking Picadilly Gardens

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your stay with us. I was pleased to hear that we formed a convenient base for your time in Manchester whilst attending a conference.

As a city centre hotel with our own on site parking, is indeed a great benefit that many guests do comment on as a huge positive, as they have peace of mind that their vehicle is safe, with the added convenience of being only steps away from our reception doors too. Due to the number of spaces that we have, in order to be fair to everyone, spaces are allocated on a first come first served basis but as you say, there is directly underneath the hotel an NCP car park, which we are able to offer a percentage discount off, if guests let Reception know.

Many thanks again for sharing your experience on this occasion and trust that on a future visit to Manchester, we may have the pleasure of welcoming you back once again.

Kind regards
David Daly

Whilst staying at the Mercure recently I found staff very helpful as they helped me sort out a flat tyre on my car. Without their help I would have been late to a meeting so I am very grateful. Special thanks go to the staff member who used his father's day gift, an electronic tyre pump, to inflate my tyre - I really appreciated the time and effort and that's what I call going above and beyond an expected service. :)

The Mercure is beginning to show its age. The rooms are quite small by today's standard with narrow access and small bathrooms. The beds and seating are comfortable but some of the fittings are a little shabby. The TV system is dated and not very responsive. The best feature of the hotel is its location in Piccadilly Gardens. The restaurant is good and the hotel is overall a decent overnight stay at a reasonable price. .

Room Tip: Try to get a high floor away from the street noise!

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to post your review following your stay with us. Indeed our central location is very popular with our guests. As with all Hotel groups, to have capital expenditure released to carry out refurbishments/redevelopment is always very welcome and as a Company, Jupiter Hotels who are our operating Company, are committed to investing in their 26 hotels within the UK, which operate under the Mercure brand.

I do hope that sometime in the future we may have the opportunity to welcome you back.

Kind regards

Didn't enjoy our stay. The room was OK but small. The worst thing was you could not open a window !! and the air con did not work well. Asked to change to a room were we could open a window and was told that no rooms have opening windows. It was like sleeping in a sauna and very uncomfortable. The breakfast felt like going to a cattle market. They had a large company event and it was very busy. Not a good experience. Would never stay again.

Dear Guest

I was sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay with us. As a 280 bedroomed City Centre hotel , with large banqueting facilities too, when the hotel is full and perhaps an event is taking place too, indeed the hotel will appear to be very busy.

With regard to our windows, I can confirm that are in the process of opening our bedroom windows, albeit they will have a restricted opening for safety reasons.

Although I see your disappointment on this occasion, I do hope sometime in the future we may have the opportunity to welcome you back again.

Kind regards

Title of the review says it all really.

I didn't really find anything drastically wrong with the hotel but had I paid more than the last minute rate I did I certainly would have been a little bemused.

The hotel star system is renowned to be misleading as so much is based on facilities rather than "luxury" but this really did feel like more of a 3*.

Common areas were cetainly much more "loved" than the room I was allocated. It was certainly one of the smaller rooms I have stayed in outside London. The were no issues with cleanliness to be fair but the bathroom was dated and shabby with a poor quality shower.

I would possibly stay here again if the price was right but it certainly isn't anywhere near the standard of other hotels in the group and would be tempted by a Premier Inn at a similar price.

Stayed 2 nights. Our room was on the top floor with spectacular views across Manchester towards the Pennines. On closer inspection though, the windows were dirty, shabby, with no ventilation. "King Span insulation" evident in the reveals of the window void which didn't look good. Very small room with double bed, not king or queen size. Only one bathroom towel. Tea and coffee supplies were depleted and minimal. We were told the room was away from the lifts and it was almost opposite them. The room was tastefully appointed and clean, but the very small size and old windows let it down. We paid £110 a night! This did not include breakfast. We ate out!

Room Tip: Upgrade. Don't go for the basic rooms.
