“Virtually faultless experience.. much improved.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Prompt and efficient check in and warm genuine welcome from the staff. Room on 8th floor. Very functional and spotless. Nice plump pillows. Had a wifi and B&B inclusive rate. Initially could not connect to the wifi using the earthnet. Called reception and they advised they would sent someone. Within a few minutes there was a knock at the door and there were 2 staff to rectify,,one in training as was shown how to troubleshoot. Very impressive response and resolution,

Visible security staff on the front door which is welcome due to the location of the hotel on a Saturday night. It seems the whole of the North West parties in this fair city.

Was pleased to be told on check in that Sunday breakfast would be served until 12noon. A gold medal needs to be given to the genius that thought of this as nobody wants to rush down to have finished breakfast by 10.30am on a Sunday after being out the night before.

Sunday morning breakfast service is almost a measure of a top hotel in itself. Really pleased to note that at 11.10am there was no wait to be seated, a wide array of food on the hot and cold sections. Also, coffee, tea and toast brought promptly by enthusiastic staff. The same staff clearing away tables promptly and efficiently. A very welcome addition was an omelette station with fresh cooked to order omelettes.

Check out was prompt and efficient with the only error on the bill noticed before he had even printed it and removed. This shows that the employee was actually taking care and not just in automatic mode.

All in all a most excellent stay and one that I am used to at this hotel. Must have been an off day when I stayed in January. Bonus points must be given for having Earl Grey tea bags on the hospitality trays in the rooms.

Two minor niggles... lack of plugs by the bed. I can't be the only person that likes to charge my mobile phone and have it close to me in bed and also the internet access. In the 21st century where wifi is almost standard not sure why this still needs to be done via earthnet connection leads here. Would be nice to use laptop in bed; Nothing major but would be the difference between 97/100 and 100/100.

We stayed here for two nights in late August. We booked on lastminute.com and got a good rate. My teenage daughter was with us so we had two rooms, both beside each other on the 11th floor. The views were lovely, you could see mountains in the distance. The hotel is bang smack in the centre of Manchester, literally a minute's walk from the Arndale Shopping Centre and all the pedestrianised shopping area. Also a lot of buses stop right outside, it seems to be some kind of a bus terminus, and is very convenient for going anywhere. We paid for breakfast when we arrived. The breakfast was superb. The lady who was at the reception in the breakfast area showed us to our table and told us what food was available. On our second morning, she remembered us. The food itself was delicious. The breakfast restaurant has superb views with floor to ceiling glass windows. Our rooms were beautiful, couldn't fault anything.
Overall a great stay. I would highly recommend the Mercure and I would definitely stay there again when in Manchester.

Room Tip: Our room had a corner window which was lovely. It was facing the front, but had lovely views and was...

We booked this hotel for the 1st night of our Honeymoon as were travelling to Italy the morning after. I had mentioned in my booking that this was the case yet we were put in a poor room. We stayed in half of a connected room and could hear every single noise from the people next door. Not that they were particularly loud but there was only a door separating our rooms!

The bed was very uncomfortable. We had 2 single beds pushed together with one being higher than the other!

Other than that, the room was very modern and clean with a good view of Piccadilly Gardens right in the centre of town.

Dear Guest

My apologies that your comment, made at booking stage, informing us that your stay with us was the start of your honeymoon was not picked up prior to your arrival and as such, we didn't have the opportunity to enhance such an occasion as we would normally do. I am sorry that you were disappointed with the room allocated on this occasion but I thank you for sharing your feedback with me.

Many congratulations on your marriage and if you do choose to stay with us again in the future, then please do contact me personally.

Stayed Saturday at the Mercure. Very conveniently situated for shopping. Room was clean and well-appointed. Restaurant has good view over Picadilly gardens, provided you don't look down at the litter in the bus station. Breakfast fairly standard, but well presented and with very attentive staff.

Room was clean and well presented.

TV channels were difficult to navigate to through all the corporate offers etc. Remote was a bit unreliable.

Bed was small. We were in a double room with what I think was a 3/4 bed.

Walls were thin. We could hear what people were saying next door.

Location in central Manchester means its v popular with people out drinking so we were disturbed during the night.

Won't stay here again.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review. As you have mentioned, we are a prime City Centre located hotel and noise transfer from traffic outside the building and the general hustle and bustle of the City, can be of a disturbance to some guests who may not be used to such an environment. We do have secondary double glazing in place to mask the noise from outside and we have also just finalised some internal works to try to minimise noise transfer internally to. I am only too sorry that you were disturbed on this occasion. With regard to the size of our beds, I can confirm that they are standard sized double beds.

Many thanks once again for your feedback and I do hope that sometime in the future we may have the opportunity to welcome you back.

Kind regards

This hotel is very well located, carries the flagship Mercure brand synonymous with affordable luxury, and provides 4-5 star chic with 3 star prices. We were delighted to be upgraded to a suite because the hotel was so fully booked. Definitely recommend this one and Mercure generally in the UK.
