“Good hotel in a great location”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

We arrived about 5pm on New Year's Eve & there was a small queue at reception but was check in smoothly & given a room. The room is quiet big with a smart look & also has a large bathroom. When you flush the toilet its takes about 5 mins for it to refill & while its doing this, it is very loud (tip don't flush at night, as you will wake the other person in the room). Also get a bath mat from reception as the bath is quiet slippery.
Don't bother with the breakfast as its £9 per head & you can get a breakfast for under £5 from a number of places within a 5 minute walk.
This hotel is conviently located right in the centre, very close to the shops, bars & railway station.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stop in a central location in a good three star hotel.

Room Tip: Don't flush at night, as you will wake the other person in the room). Also get a bath mat from r...

Central as you can get in Manchester, this is fine hotel of the upper-mid range. Great service and food and friendly staff.

Thank you for posting your review on Tripadvisor. I was pleased to hear that you enjoyed your time with us over Christmas and that you found the team charming and our central location to be of great benefit.

Due to occupancy levels over Christmas, rather than operate all bedroom floors, we made a decision just to operate and fill a number of floors, the 14th floor being one of them. I trust that you enjoyed the spectular views that our 14th floor bedrooms offer.

Thanks again and I do hope that we will have the opportunity of welcoming you back again very soon.

Kind regards

The Mercure's an easy walk from Piccadilly Station in Manchester, a great central location. The hotel is quite hidden -- it looks like an office block and its signage isn't obvious. Inside, it's up to reception and an entry into a hotel offering good service, a comfortable, spacious and well-equipped room. Breakfast in the Arts Brasserie was very good, with sweeping views from the brasserie down onto Piccadilly Gardens and a nearby tram station. Under new management, the hotel has a solid foundation for further improvements.

We are very pleased with the Mercure. We got a bargain rate for a few nights just before Christmas. It's in a great location very convenient for shopping. The rooms are fine, yes they are a little bit small but we didn't have a problem. Rooms are very clean and perfectly adequate for a few nights stay.

The room was ok for its price. Our bed had been combined by 2 single bed to form a double. Usual amenities such as tea, coffee, biscuit. Toiletries only had shower gel and shampoo, and a sanitary bag. Asked for tooth brush said she will try her best to find one when she comes up says that no more need to wait for delivery come in tomorrow. Ask for ice bucket was told that it will be 2 pounds to take it up to room and no charge if we pick it up from the bar :( expedia and booking.com was not clear about wifi. Yes there is wifi in the hotel but that is bar/restaurant only. We had some important document to submit and internet was not working in the room. A female receptionist said "Is it really a big deal for you to use the internet? you will have to move room if you want to use it." She offered to move to next door then ask will it be available in that room as well? "I dont know! Maintenance is not here, I cant tell you!" Well well well. Such a NICE receptionist. A man later came up to room, think the name is Panos was really polite and apologetic. She should learn from him :D

Thank you for your valued review. I was sorry to read that your stay did not meet your expectations to the full. Please be assured that the service you received on this occasion was not a true reflection of the service that we pride ourselves on, which hopefully was reflected by the way in which Panos dealt with your concerns. I do appreciate you, however, taking the time to share your feedback with us, as guests comments allow me to monitor performance and standards, and act accordingly. Thank you once again and I do sincerely hope that we may have the opportunity of welcoming you back in order that we may have a chance to restore your faith in us.

Perfectly acceptable accomodation for a business trip but for a 4* hotel this place must have some of the smallest rooms around. Watch out for the low ceiling when showering! And that frustrating add on charge for Internet access - when will they learn, or perhaps more to the point when we will learn?

Good breakfast. Friendly receptionists.
