“Still lousy service”
Reviewed December 9, 2007

I stayed just after this monstrousity opened. It was poor then, but I put it down to teething problems. But it's not a deal better. The real problem is that the whole thing is so damn ugly. Rooms a little better now the air conditioning works. But the service is barely acceptable for a hotel of this price. The breakfast is ordinary. Downstairs bar is pretty awful, and there were a bunch of none residents queuing for the 23rd floor bar, so we decided to give it a miss. I don't do queues at the price you pay for the dubious honour of staying here. Arrived back at 1 am and requested a coffee in the bar, only to be told they don't do hot drinks. Pathetic. The only saving grace is that there is a great little Spanish restaurant 50 yards away. Keeps a man sane when staying in an antiseptic pile like this.
I felt sorry for a couple who seemed to be having their wedding reception here. What a memory

A stylish hotel. Our room was a very good size, one wall is glass with superb views across the city. The bathroom was very modern with good quality fittings, a great bath and shower and good selection of toiletries. My only quibble with the room was it would be good to have a second easy chair, there was certainly room for one. Soundproofing seemed to be very good as the hotel was full and we only heard a few doors closing.
Excellent breakfast in a spacious pleasant area. All staff seemed young but professional and courteous.
An area which could be improved is reception. There is no signage or clues as to which part to use for check in/checkout.
We stayed for a works party and the room, food and service was
excellent.
Well done Hilton !

I took my mother here for an overnight stay as a treat before Christmas. I booked direct with the reservations and got a 'government rate' which reduced the price somewhat.
Booking in was quick and easy, all staff were friendly and approachable.
As other people have said the views are fantastic and the facilities are of a good standard which you would expect. The receptionist actually offered us a higher floor which of course we accepted. Why go here to stay on a lower floor? We had a standard room on the 16th floor.
I thought the breakfast could have been better and certainly hotter. I have definately had better breakfast at other Manchester hotels that are only rated as 3 star!
The Cloud Bar was an experience and if you stay here it is not to be missed. Its not the sort of bar I would go to if I was not a guest. The drinks are rather pricey!
We didnt use the pool due to lack of time but we were shown round it by a member of staff.
Parking next door in the NCP was easy and the price was reduced by 40% due to the concierge stamping our ticket. It worked out much cheaper than 2 train fares.
Overall I would reccommend staying at the hotel to others but just as a one off experience. I feel the prices are overated if you have to pay full price.
I wouldnt rush back there for a future stay unless I had a good deal.
As this is one of the newest and most spectacular looking hotels in the City, this really should be number one on Tripadvisor.

  • Liked — The views, excellent cocktails even though pricey! Also great Indian restaurant nearby 'AKBARS'
  • Disliked — Overpriced if have to pay full price

We stayed here for 1 night in a King Executive Room on the 19th Floor. Arriving at the hotel, we checked in an hour early with no problems. The room was stunning! We opened the curtains to look at the amazing views over Manchester through the floor to ceiling windows. We must have spent an hour just watching people and getting our bearings! The room had a large desk area, plasma TV, iron and ironing board, hairdryer etc. The minibar was well stocked and pricey, but nothing different from any other hotel. The beautiful Villeroy and Boch bathroom had a separate shower cubicle and was well equipped with Crabtree and Evelyn products, bathrobes and slippers and even digital scales! When we arrived back in our room at night, the housekeeping staff had turned the beds down and left chocolates, which was a nice touch. As we were booked in an Executive Room we had use of the Executive Lounge with free complimentary drinks and canapes. It is on the same floor as the Cloud Bar so the views are amazing. You can help yourselves to fridges stocked full of beer and soft drinks, wine and spirits and they have a selection of nibbles and fruit aswell. They bring different canapes out throughout the day. While we were there they had chocolate muffins, cookies, scones and jam, mince pies, strawberries and cream and other cakes. It is well worth paying the extra to make use of these facilities. However, the lounge does lack a bit of atmosphere. We had a look in the Cloud bar, but didn't have a drink there. We didn't need to when the drinks were free on the other side of the floor! We did have a drink in the Podium bar though. We ordered a bottle of Becks and a cocktail which was made just for me and it came to £10.95! We only stayed for the one!!. The staff all throughout the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful and always went out of their way to help you, and were not at all pretentious or rude.

Would definately recommend it. We can't wait to go back, next time we will stay for 2 nights.

The Hilton Manchester (Deansgate) fills the lower half of the 555ft Beetham tower - the tallest building outside London ,and still feels new having only opened in 2006.

We stayed for two nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which we pre-paid some time previously.

The room was superb with wall to floor windows looking out onto the city. The decor is up to date but of top quality and the bed was large and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was tastefully laid out with high-quality tiles and the oval hand basin added to the stylish feel.

Food was excellent with a £25 contribution (per person) towards dinner sufficient for a starter and main course - both of which were substantial enough to not require a dessert!

Breakfast is probably the best we've ever had in a hotel with a huge choice from the buffet tables and enough food to keep you going well into the afternoon.

The service was also top class with attentive and pleasant staff always willing to help.

The finishing touch is the "Cloud 23" cocktail bar which offers pricey cocktails but a wonderful view from the 23rd floor which justifies the cost.

I really can't understand the negative comments regarding this hotel - the views from the room, the food and overall experience are second to none and this is definitely a fitting place to explore a city which is really going places.

Highly recommended.

T he Hilton, Deansgate, Manchester is a very tall building, it floats like a pyramid of glass into the Manchester skyline. The foyer is smart, but the facilities do not match the decor. We booked a standard twin room only, which cost £394 for 2 people for two nights. We paid by credit card in advance and twice were asked for full payment by the cashier.
The room was typical of any motel like room . Beds were clean.Bathroom mediocre, the oval hand basin had a faulty plug, the bath was slippery, the lavatory was squeezed into a corner with little room for knees and feet. The spectacular view from the glass wall was of the kitchen and railway station. Hotel staff were very pleasant.especially in the Podium bar. Concierge unhelpful. Trying to get a taxi at 9.am. when leaving was difficult. Guests were outside in the rain left to sort out which cab was theirs. It was a real mess. There is a swish cocktail bar on the 23rd, floor with panaromic views of Manchester!! The lift was out of order when we tried to get up there. Verdict, expensive and not worth the money.

This hotel can be seen from nearly everywhere in manchester! it is very high and sticks out from all the other high rise buildings.
Building very modern and the staff are very helpful.

The biggest problem i had was that i stayed for for 3 nights and my room was not made by until 5 in the evening! and yet i was not on the highest floor.. i spoke to staff about this and this is a big problem with the hotel due to staff levels. To me this was not acceptable. I was out all day then came back to get ready to go out again and was unable to take a shower due to the cleaner wanting to come in!

apart from that the hotel is modern and clean when it does get cleaned! breakfast was great.

There was always a queue for the lift to the cloud 23 which is a bar. i did not visit just because of the long queues, plus i had heard it is very expensive to have a drink at a bar which is 23 floors up with clear glass floor.... suprisingly this did not temp me!

great location few minutes walk to the centre where all the lovely shops are and bar and restaurants also right next to the GMEX.

This is a high profile hotel i saw some of the Man U team. this is a hotel to bump into the rich and famous :)
