“Really Interesting Museum with Great Volunteers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

This is a small free museum in a former police station staffed by volunteers - nearly all of whom are ex police. It's well worth a look with lots to see and ask questions about.

Ex Inspector Danny Ewington was very informative and helpful.

Do look at the cells and custody desk.

“Put your Hands Up your Knicked !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Went here on a location scout for a short film I was making (clang) and met some really interesting ex police officers who run this establishment. The old cells here are fantastic and very atmospheric and there is a mock court that is exceptional. With the curators knowledge and the building and its treasures this is a real fun outing. It only takes 1 1/2 hours but it is well worth a look !!!!

“An absolute gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

If you're staying in Manchester you would be a fool to not visit this place - you only need to set aside 2 hours, and there's plenty of fascinating things to see. The museum shows how the police has evolved over time, starting from the 19th century, with timeline displays of uniforms, helmets, handcuffs and much more.

The crime room is a highlight (though not suitable for little ones!) - with plenty of stories and genuine items retrieved from crime scenes such as weapons, and the groundbreaking methods used to catch criminals are detailed. You can also head around the back and visit the old custody room and cells, which you can walk inside.

As others have said, what makes this museum great are the volunteers who give up their time and come over to speak about the items on display, and you can tell they love what they do. There was a school trip there the same time as us, and they were great with the kids.

It's free to enter but we were happy to donate a few quid when we left, well worth the visit!
