“Wonderful birthday treat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013 via mobile

I booked this hotel as part of a gift to my boyfriend for his birthday. When we arrived at the hotel we were over the moon to be told we had an upgrade, we left our bags with reception and carried on with our day - I had booked a tour of old Trafford. On return to the hotel we were shown to our room which was absolutely beautiful, a split level room with its own sitting area. The room had lovely touches like fresh baked biscuits and bath robes next to the freestanding bath in the bedroom. We had a few drinks in the bar and the staff went to the effort to print off a map to show us where to go shopping etc! Had a great nights sleep and the room was lovely and romantic. Next morning we left our bags at reception while we went shopping to collect later which is a great touch as we didn't want to carry them round with us all day. All in all a fantastic trip at a beautiful hotel with lovely staff. We will most definitely be back!

We had our wedding reception here on 24 October. Booked a year prior, Bronwen and co were brilliant throughout, culminating with an amazing afternoon on the actual day. We went for the buffet menu, and expected good food but what it says on the tin. We actually got first class food and plenty of it.
Cannot praise the place enough and we will be back for anniversaries for sure.

Single night on a business trip here and really enjoyed it. Just off Deansgate it is a quite secluded and certainly a much better choice that the massive local Hilton where colleagues were staying.
Service was good and quick, wifi ok, though I gather my room was slightly out of range, and couple of grouches were the lack of plug socket next to the bed and the very bright clock radio, minor things I know but irritating if you want to sleep.
Shower was in a fantastic wet room and bath was actually in the bedroom, which is a bit of luxury for hotels and flake commercials but I would not want one at home. Breakfast and dining area were good.
Would stay again but not in room at front of hotel.

Room Tip: High up and at the back as rooms at front lack privacy.

We were married at the Great John Street Hotel on 1st September. Not only did the hotel live up to our expectations, it is fair to say that it exceeded them. I stayed the night before with friends and family and was instantly made to feel relaxed and welcome. Bronwen greeted me at reception which really put me at ease and the fabulous receptionist knew exactly who I was and all about my big day which made me feel very special. Leading up to the day Bronwen listened to everything we wanted and ensured that it ran as smoothly as clockwork. The staff here are extremely professional and are well practised in organising events so you really can leave everything in their hands. The hotel is a real hidden gem - intimate, beautiful and different from a lot of typical wedding venues. We were married on the rooftop terrace which had fabulous views over the Manchester skyline and at night was covered with candles and tealights. The rooms are sensational! The day itself could not have gone better helped in no small part by the lovely staff. We would have been lost without Michael and Nicholas both extremely professional, friendly and couldn't have done enough for us. All the guests commented on how amazing the food was both at the reception and at breakfast the following day. In short ourselves and all of our guests were made to feel like family. The staff are so warm and friendly and extremely attentive. We are looking forward to staying at the hotel again for our anniversary and, given the quality of the food and the relaxed bar area, will be regular visitors for many years to come! I'll start by saying I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Manchester. It is a very well designed hotel, boutique/luxury in style. My room (27) was a split level so there was a staircase going up to the bathroom which had a large roll top bath and separate shower, the toiletries in the bathroom were good quality. There were home-made biscuits waiting in the room on arrival. The room was nice and warm and comfortable, each item in the room was good quality and the whole place was spotless. The public areas were well designed and comfortable, I didn't get to make full use of these as I was only staying for one night but it all looked very nice. The staff that I met were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice quality and only an extra £5 to take it in your room. The only thing that let it down was the extra charge for using an American Express card, 3% on top of your total bill. I also didn't have a full length mirror in my room which would have been useful and despite turning down the temperature and finally turning the AC & heating off the room was still a bit warm for me. These are however, minor points and I would return, hopefully for longer next time so I can use all of the facilities!
