“City doorstep stop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

Although the nearest car park is a 2 min walk from the hotel and expensive for 24hrs, the value of the hotel itself balances the overall cost. The rooms are clean, cheerful and practical. Perfect for an overnight or short city break.

The Good: its new - everything is new, the building is only 6 months old............

The Bad: rooms are sterile - without any character.
The standard creating by staff is " You all right" - this Manchester idiom is, I suggest, not acceptable in all situations - a little more training required.

The Ugly: Windows don't open - no air-conditioning - when its hot its very hot - stifling - not pleasant. Fans supplied - made the room bearable.

Breakfast was ordinary - as expected - but good value at 6.50

Would I stay again - no - this budget hotel is not worth saving 50 pounds - the averageness and blandness of it all is just too oppressive.

Room Tip: Pay another 50 and get a room of value.

I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who is fussy about cleanliness, and needs a central location at a reasonable price. I bought the breakfast reluctantly, on my first morning as I was rushed, but was most pleasantly surprised and ate there again the second day.
My whole stay was excellent value for money! How does Travelodge do it?

This was a good price in central location. Weather has been very warm but oddly this relatively new build dies not have air con or windows that open. Perhaps they think you might find staying in Manchester Picadilly suicidal and may fling yourself out of the window. Fans were available but air con should have been installed. Staff are a bit 'cold', not much of a warm greeting on check in. I would stay here again but I was surprised that the local area was very dirty, no street cleaning, rubbish all over pavements and quite an issue with begging.

Room Tip: Ensure you ask for a fan on check in as rooms are hot.

We were very happy to have chosen to stay for a night here before moving up to Scotland. We arrived around 10.30 pm and was quickly given a room facing the courtyard where we could open the window to release the heat in the room. We also borrowed a hair dryer and a table fan from reception upon check in.

Room was spacious, bed clean and comfortable. Toilet was also new and clean and we really enjoyed a good dip in the short bathtub after flying with transit nearly a day and another 5 hours by coach on the road. Towels were clean and shampoo and shower gel combo are provided.

Sleep quality was very good. TV has plenty of English programs and wifi is free for 30 minutes. Not many hangers to hang our clothes but not a critical issue. Tea and coffee facility is also provided which is excellent for a budget hotel.

The hotel is centrally located and most of the attractions are easily accessible on foot. We booked the hotel early and got a great price. This is the first time we stayed at the Travelodge and we are very impressed.

I choose this hotel for it's location. I was very happy to get a room facing Piccadilly Gardens and it's great views.

Sadly with Travelodge's seemed paranoia over whether people may book with them just to chuck themselves out of a window, you can't open them. With the warm, sunny and humid weather was not great. Surely they could have put in windows that allowed even a small opening possible.

It won't put me off booking again, but as rivals, Premier Inn do have air conditioning, would be worth a thought.

Room Tip: I was glad the room was where it was, but you can't choose.

I won a free night at this hotel via the Travelodge Twitter #getupandgo competition. I decided to use my free night to meet with a friend and have an evening out in Manchester.

Upon arrival, we checked in with the self-service kiosk, which worked perfectly. The hotel is a new property and everything screams 'new', which is very welcoming. Our room was very spacious, with a nice bathroom and - to my suprise - the standard Traveldoge bar of soap had been replaced by a bottle of liquid body/face wash. The bed was very comfortable and overall our experience was very pleasant.

That evening on our way back we just put our heads through the bar/breakfast room just to nose around and a member of staff, who was cleaning, asked us if we needed anything. We said we just wanted to look and didn't need anything, but we spent a couple of minutes talking to her and were impressed to be greeted by such a friendly, welcoming member of staff.

We chose not to have breakfast the next day so we couldn't comment on that.

Overall, I'd say that this particular Travelodge could rival a much more expensive hotel. I'd definitely stay there again.

If Travelodge at some point decide to make their WiFi free (currently it's only free for the first 30 minutes) then they would achieve utter perfection within their price range. Currently I tend to chose the Ibis group if I'm paying, as their WiFi is always included in the price of the room.
