We visited on a Saturday evening and began with cocktails in the bar. Service was a bit slow but friendly and the cocktails were great. We had a nice corner booth and our German waiter was very professional and humorous which we appreciated. I have eaten in all of Simon Rogan's restaurants and this did not disappoint. Portion sizes were good and the quality amazing. The only criticisms I would have is that we were charged £7 for tiny portions of bread and there was an automatic service charge. Otherwise I can't wait to return!

Not easy to cater for a table of 27 on a busy Friday night but Fernando and his team did amazingly well and my 40th birthday was brilliant. The food was fantastic, everybody commented how good it was, the service was as usual the best in Manchester, efficient, friendly, discreet and always a face topping up drinks or offering service. Maria was on form...no ones glass was empty for the champagne reception in the Wyvern room...she is such a star!
I wanted oysters to start with along with canapés, this was organised and oysters were bought in. The attention to detail was spot on, a night full of great memories so a massive thank you to everyone at Mr Coopers who made my 40th birthday as special as it was.

The food is good, of high quality and reasonable portion size. The service is good - informal but attentive. I was worried it would feel like a hotel restaurant but it doesn't the atmosphere created is ok - but still a bit echoey.

Main negative is that it is another restaurant which insists on putting 10% service charge on the bill automatically. It always makes me more inclined not to tip and always leaves a sour note at the end of the night.

The newest restaurant by Simon Rogan at the Midland, this place far more casual that The French. The menu is good with a nice range of options but not massive, about 8 mains to choose from.

When we ordered the duck, the waitress even took the time to explain that it would be cooked "pink" and gave us the option to send special instructions to the kitchen. When the meal arrived it was cooked exactly how we asked for it.

The food was well presented and perfectly seasoned. The portions aren't huge but are satisfying, which was nice since it left room for dessert. We had the chocolate caramel tart which was wonderful - rich without being overpowering or sickly sweet, and the spiced madeleines which were a bit of a let-down. They were overly cakey and bland, but the fruit curds with them added some flavour.

All four of us enjoyed our evening enormously. The menu was different enough to be interesting but not to put off 'nervous' diners. The food was gorgeous - very tasty and beautifully presented - with some interesting sides (the deep fried pickles were amazing!). The staff were knowledgeable and friendly and gave us plenty of time and space to chat and enjoy our evening without constant interruptions. The concept behind the venue is beautifully realised - the 'house' and 'garden' elements work really well - you forget you're in a hotel completely.

Finally it would be rude not to comment on the cocktails - very innovative but also very drinkable - dangerous!"
