I had a burger craving and went to Byron. I ordered the Byron burger, it comprises of beef patty, dry cured bacon, mature cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red onion and Byron sauce, plus ordered a side of Courgette Fries. The burger was the best I had in Manchester and the fries were the best I ever had eaten. If you want a burger in Manchester go to the best, go to Byrons.

As the mid-premium priced burger boom grows in the UK, I tried our the new Byron Hamburger joint that's replaced Pesto just off Deansgate.

Initial impression was that it looked a fun American-style diner.
The menu is vastly limited however. For a Burger joint, there's no imagination and little originality. With about 6 burgers to choose from, including standard, cheeseburger, double hamburger, chilli burger (which is just chillis rather than con carni), Vege and a bacon variation.

Personally, I found this disappointing. They're in a great location and feels to have wasted an opportunity for a talking point.

Burgers are roughly £7 and come with no sides. Various toppings were available such as different cheeses, bacon et al.
Fries (skinned/non-skinned), corn on the cob and salads are available.
Again, little option and no imagination.

Drinks are standard fare with bottled beers available.

Taste-wise, the cheeseburger was thankfully lovely!
It was tender, cooked really well and the build was great, with little spillage and good taste.
We got the basic fries which sadly were not worse or better than MacDonalds. Again, another lack of imagination.

Service was excellent but it was half empty.Food arrived very quickly (and so it should for a burger joint)

Overall

In summary, it all this feels like a wasted opportunity.
They need to better-define their identity - is it an All American Diner or an English Diner selling American Burgers?
There needs to be some sparkle on the menu too - something people go away and talk about.
There's many a quality bar and other burger places popping up and offering a much better range now.

For the same price as Gourmet Burger Kitchen which is literally round the corner, or even Mud Crab Cage in East Didsbury, you're money is better spent elsewhere.

Being a solely burger restaurant, you'd expect the burgers to be tasty. You'd be right. By far the best burger I've ever had (and I've had quite a lot). Perfectly cooked, moist, well sized bun, I could go on, but it'd be boring and a bit too indepth for a review of a burger :/ Good, fast service and the place was very clean. All round win imho.
