We visited the first weekend of opening and luckily we pre-booked as there was a big queue. Definitely different if you are looking for something away from the norm. The decor relates to industrial with a twist of chicness about it. The menu again was different from the norm and I tried the pulled pork pizza, which was delicious. My partner had the gammon again delicious which had been cooked in the smoked oven. The staff were many and considering it was so busy the service was very good. The puddings were very retro and I would recommend the arctic roll with berries, a blast from the past which finished off the meal very nicely. The chic restroom is well worth a visit with the photo-booth on route - which produces black and white photos. Great atmosphere and well worth a visit, even if you just fancy a drink.

Last night, the four of us visited Artisan. It was their first Saturday night so I expected there to be some teething problems. I could not have been more wrong.

This shabby chic restaurant was buzzing. At first I thought that we would all have headaches before we left, the noise was so bad. Again, how wrong could I have been!

We were shown a huge table laid for 6 people although we were only 4. Love it when you are not crowded round a small table and I loved the serviettes - looked just like tea towels and they were a decent size too. This restaurant is getting better by the minute.....

Started off with cocktails, each one different, One had a coffee one which was served over ice in what looked like a tin can - how cute was that?

Now down to ordering...... what a great choice of really unusual items. Do I have a burger? Fish - the smoked salmon in a can sounds interesting? Fish en papiotte, different (although it looked more like a caltzone). I plumped for the pizza with beetroot, horseradish and goats cheese - what a superb thin crispy base and such an interesting topping too - marks out of 10, yes you have guessed it 10. We all loved our choices - he had the fish en papiotte (cod, vegetables with couscous) another had a burger and the fourth had a salad. Then we had the difficult but pleasant nonetheless choice of dessert - where do you begin - Baked Alaska; Artic Roll, Jelly - this is the stuff dreams and waistlines are made of (or not as the case may be) - in the end, we shared a baked banana with salt caramel sauce and gingerbread icecream - I died and went to heaven. Apple turnover and icecream - and old fashioned staple and a summer pudding that looked full of fruit. All were consumed with relish. Cant wait to go again it was that good.

Newly opened this week and another major investment in Manchester creating what I would call a New York loft style funky shabby chic environment. I really like the design with an open kitchen, old desks for the bar, arm chairs and soft settees and big restaurant seating area combining booths and loose seating. Staff were friendly if not a little "in training" mode with lots of what appeared to be extra supervision going on although it didn't mean efficiency - had to remind staff to be seated and some of the menu detail was lost in explanation. The menu is combination of eclectic starters with burgers, steaks, sharing platters and pizza's. Don't expect an Hawaiian though other than a Margherita the rest are unusual. I had a beetroot, horseradish and goats cheese Pizza - lovely combo and great thin crust cooked. My starter was a big pile of artichoke leaves with a oil/garlic dips - bit retro and very tasty. We also had a lovely cooked camembert with spicy nuts and flat bread (yum - although the waiter couldn't tell me what was in it) and a burger with crispy crinkle cut chips (just like the old days!). Nice cocktail and wine by the carafe all added to a lovely meal. Once they are in their stride from a service point of view it can only get better. Go and visit you'll love it.
