“One of the coolest, most relaxed bars in the Northern Quarter”

This is so my kind of place - a quirky boho bar in one of the coolest parts of the Northern Quarter that has an outrageously extensive selection of English and continental beers (mainly the latter), including its own IPA, and offers a great range of informal food, including some very tasty home-made beef burgers.

The place has a relaxed, independently minded feel about it and the staff are really friendly and pleasant. The kind of place you feel at home in if you like your drinking holes to be quietly cool and self assured rather than slick and sassy. If this place was a newspaper, it would be The Independent.

Typical crowd is trendy (but not pretentious) creative types enjoying a quiet drink. Music is cool too – and not overly loud, but definitely not ambient.

The perfect place to go for a sociable drink with your mates. It’s not a beauty to look at from the outside – almost non-descript, but it’s nicely kitted out with a mix of odd furniture and tables. Shabby urban chic. Very popular with locals, which is a pretty darn good endorsement.

Lovely website and I like the amusing tone of its food menu. Common by name, edgy by nature.

I have been going to Common on and off for a while now, used to be one of my favourite places to visit in the NQ. However how things have changed... we visited recently with a group of friends and we were all sooooo dissapointed in the food. Cold burgers, greasy chips just rubbish,
Rude staff, coulnt be bothered in one bit to look after us properly.

Burgers dont come with chips anymore of any sides at all...really weird!

Menu has completely changed, no idea why it was good before. They are trying to keep up with all the new "american" type resaurants popping up all over town but failing big time.

I wouldnt waste your time or money.

made the mistake of looking up best places for brunch in Manchester and found an article extolling the virtues of Common. It did not live up to expectations at all.
The menu looks quite appealing, but the quality of the food was low. A high stack pastrami sandwich ordered by my partner had pastrami so tough and stringy, she gave up. I attempted a falafel and halloumi burger. THe burger itself was average, as were the fries which accompany it. The halloumi was ultra salty and rubbery (far more so than halloumi normally is), and overall the meal was a chore to eat. We gave up, and went over the road to the vastly superior Tea Cup where we ate fresh, innovative and gorgeous food, served far more quickly.

Common bar seems to have hit the nail on the head. One of the best bars in the northern quarter for sure. Great music, nice crowd. The Burgers are spot on. Common has a bit of a reputation for being pretentious, but take no notice, its a cool place to hang out

Not a bad beer selection for a night out, good music and tasty burgers. Couldn't ask for much more on our first day in Manchester :)
