This was a lovely warm cottage that had lovely views over a valley. It had a cosy rustic feel but had all the modern conveniences. The host was easy to deal with and helpful. We would thoroughly recommend it.

“A place to relax away from it all in comfort and peace.”

We booked this cottage for the Spring Bank Holiday weekend and arrived late on the Friday evening. This was no problem for our very accommodating hosts who guided us to the location by phone helping us to avoid a major festival on the way. As they live next door they welcomed us in person with minimal intrusion - just the basic information we needed to settle in. The superb kitchen was pre-stocked with tea and coffee and a clutch of freshly laid hens' eggs.

The cottage comprises of a downstairs lounge / kitchen area. Kitchen is fitted with gas oven and hob, a washing machine and an under worktop fridge with small freezer section. An electric kettle and toaster are available for use and the utensils, crockery and cutlery were plentiful and of good quality. A small table and three chairs completes the kitchen diner area. The lounge is comfortably furnished with a sofa and chair and coffee table. There are also a solid fuel stove and a large, wall-mounted flat-screen satellite TV neither of which we used much given the weather and our desire to 'be away from it all'.

The cottage's location on the edge of the Peak District and close to the M62 and the Pennine Way provides a convenient base for those who enjoy outdoor activities (here, the washing machine becomes an important asset). Alternatively, you can just enjoy the views from the convenience of the well kept patio furniture.

The cottage has two bedrooms accessed by a narrow wooden flight of stairs with a tight right angle which may prove difficult for people with mobility difficulties. The bedrooms are pleasantly furnished and the beds comfortable. Both have their own toilet and shower ensuite but the smaller 'bathroom' is not separate to its bedroom which some may find unusual. This does however make very practical use of the limited space available.

Having said that, this cottage has everything for a perfect break and we are sure that plenty of couples, or threesomes, would find this cottage extremely suitable. Enjoy! We certainly want to return.

Liked best: The peace and quiet of the location and comfortable beds.
Liked least: The stairs ... but it is a cottage and they're better than the original stone ones would have been.
