“Excellent service & food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014 via mobile

We eat here a lot & always have a great experience. The staff are very knowledgable and friendly, and the food is excellent. As a vegetarian, I feel happier eating here than I do at most establishments - they can adapt meals to make them suitable and they're also very upfront about non-veggie items (our waiter tonight told us as he was offering everyone Parmesan that it wasn't veggie. Most restaurants either don't know that it isn't veggie or don't think to tell diners). Everything seems to be freshly made and tastes all the better for it. The building is also fabulous. All in all, a great experience.

“Not impressed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We knew we were going for Manchester for New Years, and though it would be a good experiance to eat at Jamie's Italian... We were two couples.

We had a table orderd for 20 a'clock, when we came we were told, that we needed to wait for about 15-20 minuttes, which we found weird, considering, that we made a reservation a long time ago. I said that we had a reservation, but the lady said that they were running behind.
We were not even offered a drink on the house.

When we got table it was a good table, but both for the starter and the dessert, the waiter told us that they had run out of some of the dishes, that we wanted to order.
Weird - they should know its New Years, and allways have whats on the menu. The food were okay, but nothing special.

When we paid one couple paid by card and the other by cash - the waiter just took for granted that the extra money were tips, and we couldn't be asked to say anything, even tho we didn't think they deserved that much in tips.

We have been to the Italian restaurant in Leeds a few times, and always had a good experience -so we felt a bit let down.

“Not a great experience, but better than last time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013

Visited for our works Christmas Do here (around 35 people) on the Friday night before Christmas. The restaurant was very busy, but we were able to get a drink at the bar without any issue and were seated promptly at 6pm. The starters were already in place. As you'd expect with a party of that size, one of two people were running slightly late but they brought out the hot starters anyway which was fine. Up to this point, the service in general was good.

The starter selection was OK, nothing special. I had the steak for main course which was good and profiteroles for desert which were nice enough. I did also try some of the honey & pine nut tart which was nicer.

The major problem turned out to be the speed of service. I appreciate it was a large party, but they had the food order weeks in advance so for it to take an hour to serve the main course after starters were cleared is not good in my opinion. To be honest, the delay didn't actually bother me at the time, the drinks were flowing and although I was curious why it was taking so long, it wasn't something I would have complained about.

That was until we were hurriedly given desert and minutes later told they needed the table for the next sitting. When I pointed out the menu we'd paid for included coffee and mince pies, I was told by one of the waiters that they couldn't serve these and it was our fault due to some of our party arriving late! I found that outrageous given the huge wait for the main courses to be served (our entire party was in situ well before this point); what he should have done is apologised and offered a refund. Eventually the person settling the bill was able to get part of the bill refunded, but that didn't disguise the poor service received.

Overall, I enjoyed the night and the food was reasonable, but elements of the service still badly let this restaurant down.

Booked in advance as was the Saturday before Xmas, was very busy.

Food was lovely, bruschetta and bread followed by rib eye steak and turkey, pavlova and crumble.

Lovely old building in the centre if manchester, close to Arndale centre
