Not the easiest place to find, I remember vaguely going in here once before in the past.

Was in the Northern quarter with my wife, and we called in for a quick look around. Quite a variety of artisans displaying their works, all very interesting.

Went into the small cafe for a coffee which was first class. Nice piece of cake for my wife, and a fantasic indulgent chocolate pot for myself !!. Great place, and friendly staff. They look like they had some great lunch offers on as well !.

This is a gem of a place. Slightly out of the way in a quiet cul de sac, it houses several artist's studios from ceramicists, to jewelry makers, textile and painters. It is well worth a visit.

The craft and design centre is situated close to the centre of the city in an old building that has been renovated to provide individual shops and studio spaces for craftspeople. There is quite a range of work available for sale, from jewellery to ceramics and paper crafts. All the work is of a high standard and provides the visitor with an alternative to the usual souvenir shop tat. There is also a cafe with good coffee and a range of sweet and savoury options.

I'm always disappointed by mainstream shopping and even the gifts in galleries and museums leave me a bit cold so Manchester Craft and Design Centre works for me as you meet the maker and learn more about what you buy. Products are keenly priced and customer service is really good in terms of being able to commission something unique or a tweak to a design. You're watching craftspeople at work so you know things are not mass produced. There's regular craft workshops and exhibitions as well.
