Like some of the other reviews, my husband and I had a Living Social voucher for a two course meal for two and two glasses of sparkling wine. When we first arrived, there was no one to greet us and we had a slight wait until someone finally showed us to our seats. However, we were very pleased with everything else. The atmosphere was very relaxed and despite being a small room, the tables were not crammed together. The servers were polite and friendly but not overbearing. The voucher was for a starter and main course, not main and dessert, which we were a little disappointed by since we were more interested in dessert than starter. However, we wound up really enjoying our starters anyway and we decided to just get dessert additionally. It was our anniversary, after all. Though the menu is small, the food is obviously of top quality. Not only well cooked and put together but the quality of ingredients is clearly superior. We'll definitely be returning.

I would not recommend it for families with small children though. There was a family there with a baby which I did not have a problem with but personally, I felt the style and atmosphere was more formal and suitable to couples, business, or a quiet night out with friends rather than a "family place".

My husband and i visited the restaurant using an internet voucher which was obviously the same voucher as the previous reviewer. The atmosphere was a little lacking because although there was some softly playing music in the background, we were only one of three tables being used. The staff were attentive, but not over the top. The waiter was not english but there was no language barrier. The food was excellent . If there was any critisism - my husband had steak and for the first time ever was not asked how he would like this cooked. He said it was cooked to perfection but was this just because he isnt too bothered as long as the quality is good which it was. The portions were generous in size so neither of us could manage a dessert. Coffee was good - no mints!.

We dined here tonight using an internet voucher for two courses with two glasses of Prosecco.
Upon entering the restaurant there was some pleasant music playing gentley in the background and we were greated cheerfuly and taken to a window seat.
Our order was taken by a very pleasant waiter but ufortunately there was a slight language barrier which meant when ordering I also had to point to each dish on the menu for him to be able to to write the order down. The two glasses of Prosecco arrived and even by Prosecco standards were mediocre at best. After the first sip I decided I would have a beer instead and the same waiter came to take my request and asked which beer I wanted. When I asked what was available he looked at me with a blank expression. I asked if there was a drinks menu and was given a blank look followed by the words "wine list" and a confussed expression. I took a gamble and asked if I could have a Peroni which got me a smile and a nod followed by a bottle of Peroni. The same quizicle waiter brought our starters out, one of which was a soup and then left at which point my fiancee who was having the leak and potato soup told me there was no spoon. I caught the waiters attention and and when he came over asked for a spoon, once again I got a confussed look so had to point to the bowl of soup and said spoon. He smiled and said " yes, leak and potato" I said "no, a spoon" and mimed the act of using a s spoon at which point he said "ah, spoon".
Apart from this small and some what amusing state of afairs the food arrived quickly but not so quick as to make you think the food was sat waiting to be reheated and was of excellent quality. The soup was very tastey according to my fiancee and the potted chicken and sweetcorn I had was succulent and tastey.
My fiancee's main course (she's a weirdo vegitablist) was the Sautéed Gnocchi, Provencal Vegetables, Roasted Vine Tomato, Rocket & Parmesan which she said was excellent and very satisfying and I had the Midland Burger with Gorgonzola Cheese, Maple-glazed Bacon
& Hand-cut Chips and as a burger fan have to say it is one of the best I have had anywhere. I had high expectations of a burger named after such a grand hotel and was not disapointed.
All in all it was a pleasant visit with excellent food and if you check their website there are two course meal deals which make it great value for money and somewhere I would go to again. Unfortunately Myver you only get 4 out of 5 because of the communication problems with the waiter. I'm sure he will become an excellent member of the team eventualy but knowing what a spoon is is something I would expect someone working in a restaurant to know, even if English is not your first language and come on, that prosecco??? I know it was almost a freebie with the meal but you are letting yourselves down serving that.

We dined at the Wyvern Restaurant last night using an internet voucher. This meant that what would have been an expensive meal otherwise was very reasonably priced. The first two courses were very good indeed- both of us had the sirloin steak and it was delicious. The restaurant itself was very, very pleasant and the service was irreproachable. The only criticism (and it is a minor one) came when we ordered a cheese course to share. The menu specifically offered "locally sourced cheeses". In fact, we were presented with Danish Blue, either Brie or Camenbert and an unremarkable white cheese which the waitress said was a Cheddar. In no sense can any of these cheeses be described as locally sourced. I thought this was a pity.Lancashire and Cheshire produce excellent cheeses and I would have thought the Midland would have welcomed the opportunity to introduce its guests, who are drawn from all over the world, to these local specialities.
